In life, work, play are we defining ourselves, or someone else?

We all go through life working a job, to make a name for someone else, wearing clothes, with someone elses name on it, playing, watching movies that someone else thinks is appropriate. but, are we truly defining ourselves? what do WE really like?
is it such a big deal, being so conscious of what everyone else thinks, that we cannot wear what we want to wear? that we cannot work where we choose to work? instead, we pick some job that best matches the "skills" we have in the workplace, when we would rather be painting on canvas, defining our own true unique talents?
How many of us go through life without truly defining ourselves, or finding the beauty within us all?
