There are over 55,000 people in the USA waiting for a kidney transplant and the average wait for these people is 3 to 4 years for a kidney from a person who has died. Becomming a living donor is a way to give the gift of life to someone in need. With new medical techneques the donor only has a 2 day hospital stay and is able to return to work in about 3 weeks and all medical costs are paid by the person's insurance company who is receiving the kidney so there is no cost to the donor.
