Would you allow someone else to name your first born child?

well my first baby's name was given by his two godmother . his godmother chie loves the name angelo and his godmother me-ann loves the name louie so i put them together. it became louie angelo.so far we love the name.

I would never give my child a name - homage! I don't have kids, and once my husband brought this question at home. He himself was named by his grand-father, his brother too. I think all of us deserve to have a special name, that none of our relatives had before. Why should I put someone's else name to my baby born. Never! I'm against such homages!

Nope- I would not allow my father or mother or anyone else to name my child- I would take their input but it would be my decision along with the father of the baby- and ours alone! It sounds like a tradition for your husband’s family- Glad that his dad already got to name 1 child-

I guess if it was a family tradition and i knew from the start that it was going to be that way, it probably wouldn't be so hard. But to just be told that someone else was naming my child, I couldn't do it. Naming your child is such a special thing, I couldn't imagine letting someone else do it.

I would never do such a thing since it is my child. Although I may allow suggestions and ideas from other people, the final decision should be between the parents, after all you will be the ones that will be calling them by their names most often.

On my part i won't let anybody name my first child or any other child. It will be a decision for both of us parents :

i prefer choosing my child's name on my own or with the father. hehe.. my mother chose some of my nephews name for them, though it was cute but honestly i have crazy names in my head for my future children so i prefer naming them on my own.

no, i wouldn't. i believe that parents have the privilege of naming their children. when i was pregnant with my daughter, my husband and i would have discussions on what to name our baby. we would often ask for suggestions/opinions from family. but ultimately, we were the ones who decided our baby's name.

No, I would like to have someone else name my children,whether first born or not. I prefer to choose the name myself and in fact, I was the one who chose the name for my daughter and son.

No i don't think i would. My parents named me, so as a new parent i believe my partner & i have the right to select our children's names. I didn't even ask for anyone elses opinion coz we've had the names picked out for many years before we even had children so we weren't going to change it for anyone. I guess if it's part of a belief or religion then that's fine but if it's not, i wouldn't want anyone else picking out my child's name, especially not my Grandmother coz she's from a different generation so the names she might go with aren't likely to be ones i even like!

my eldest daughter was named by my inlaw so it's just okey...the remaining two my husband and I named them.

I was raised to believe the parents should name the child..but you could listen to suggestions? well, your husbands culture may dictate this but it is clear that you do not believe these rules.. So tread easy..you will have to convince your husband.. I heard a story ..it was a couple who had twins..a boy and a girl.. The couple could not name the children so they let an Uncle name them... The first thing they asked the Uncle when the children were born..what did you name them... Well, I call the girl baby Denise They said wonderful..what was the boys name..? The Uncle said..De Nephew.... Sorry..it was all I had to work with..lol
