Why do women wear lipsticks?

Why do women wear lipsticks? - The women world over use lipsticks, but why? Is it just to improve the appearence or is there any other advantage by using it?

Most women in the western countries wear lipsticks. In India also, especially in the metro cities women have this habbit of wearing lipsticks. However in many parts of India it is considered an exotic practice. Can you please tell me the purpose of wearing lipsticks? Is there any other advantage than supposedly beautifying the face by wearing lipstick? These questions are raised out of curiosity only. Please participate and offer your kind responses. Thank you.

It's just because your lips are full, you are settled with lip gloss. It gives those full lips a glossy appearence. Thank you for the response.

In my personal view, I do wear lipstick because it makes me feel I'm beautiful and boost my self confidence. It would be very hard to be confident if you don't feel good about your self. When I don't put lipstick, I look so pale and looks like I'm sick so I make sure I have it specially on office days.

FOr me, I wear lip gloss (it is not as dark) and it adds a little color to my otherwise pale and blah appearance. Some women choose shades that really are either too dark or just too much. I like the minimal look. I use face powder for ridding the "shiny" appearance of my skin, a little black eyeliner under my eyes to accent them, and light lip gloss. This is just to add color to my face. I am very pale and sometimes can look very tired without it. I do feel some women have to wear make up to even leave the house, I am not this way. It gives some confidence and an ego boost.

Yes, make up in a moderate way as if to compensate the shortfalls in the finishing of the face is really necessary. From your discription I realise you are doing that. That is nice. Thank you for the response.

Well, for one, it, as you said, is for "beautifying the face by wearing lipsitck", but secondly, it keeps it moisturized and protects it from the rough winds in some areas of the world. However, some lipsticks have a HIGH lead content and is poisonous so people in asia, mostly do not wear lipsticks. Hope that answers your question =D

I don't think that is the reason for Asians for not wearing lipsticks. It is because of their tradition and culture. I am not sure if lead is present in lipsticks, but if it is true it is too dangerous. Thank you for the response.

Hi there, yes lipsticks DO have lead content, at a very low level, at least they used to anyways, but wearing a lipstick i would make sure it is 100% lead free, because it is for beautifying the face, and not poisoning it =]

Well I think It's only a beauty accessory like any other make up. is there no traditional make up in india? Like the designs on the hand of women. Well it is the same idea of aesthetics needs expressed there.

I know that hands are not as exposed as lips. I am just trying to explain that wherever women put their make up, it is to express the same need.

Offcourse it gives a pleasant look to the face.Personally i dont use lipstick much and only occasionally and prefer light colours. It gives completness for a good face makeup.I dont think it does any harm to lips and moreover women likes to look beautiful and lipstick serves this purpose.

First and foremost, lipstick really makes a woman's face looked polished and put together. Also, as women age, their lips tend to lose color. When the lips grow very pale, it makes a person look sickly so lipstick can really take years off a woman's face if she chooses the right color. As for other benefits from wearing lipstick, many lipsticks have anti-aging components in them or moisturizing components that keep lips from becoming dry. Many lipsticks also have an SPF or sun protection to keep the lips safe from sun damage. Personally, I wear a gloss on my lips at all times, or, at the very least, some cocoa butter. I don't like the feeling of dry, parched lips and the lip products help my lips stay hydrated and keeps me from licking my lips too much which can make them very chapped.

Differnt people have different opinions about lipstics. I use it because it give me confidense. You look more presentable and more smart and more professional. But, one has to choose the right color. It should not be too dark or too light. It should go well with the dress and the color should suit your skintone. There are so many factors to select a good lipstick. The right texture and color gives the right result. There is no harm in wearing a good quality lipstick. It really boost our confidense.

As I'm sure has been covered thus far, lipstick was created to draw attention to women who were willing to perform certain oral acts (I believe this began in Egypt). Nowadays, the entire purpose of makeup is to draw attention to the eyes. Your eyes are your most expressive facial feature. If you are wearing a makeup product that is drawing attention away from your eyes, it is not doing you any favors. Think of your face as a frame around your eyes. Lipstick is the bottom of that frame, keeping someone's gaze from going below the lips (though I know this is possible and we won't go THERE, guys!).

While speaking to a person it is decent to look at his/her eyes. The colorful lipstick detracts our attention from the eyes and pulls it to the lips and beyond.. Welcome to mylot ChupoLibro to mylot, and thank you for the response.

Yes, it boosts a womens confidence and makes her feel good about herself. It also protects her lips against the weather. The weather can be very hard on the lips and this helps protect them.

Makeup is made to enhance a girls great features: lips, skin, eyes, etc. its just supposed to enhance not cover not mask so i partly no where your coming from. BUT also makeup makes us feel pretty when OUR real beauty shows through. i think u just hav been looking at the wrong girls because not every girl needs a blowtorch to take off her makeup. i wear makeup but it looks naturally beautiful as long as its not SOO OBVIOUS we're wearing it. we want to be complimented on our beauty so we ENHANCE. it just makes us feel pretty.

Yes a very heavy make up will distroy the attractiveness of the face. Make up should be to compensate slight shortfalls in the finishing of the face. Make up with such a view is attractive and surely needed for a lady/girl. Thank you for the response.
