Our professor said that all human beings desired to be happy. Humans purpose of living is to achieve Happiness. All human beings desire to be happy. Is this true? He even set an example for this one. Criminals do something bad for they might have this good feeling or they feel happy or doing it or they just want to do it and it makes them feel contented. Some people when asked about WHAT IS THAT THING THAT MAKES YOU HAPPY, their response will be the money [in a funny manner] but I don't know if it really is their first choice since the value of money really counts right? Achieving the state of happiness at any single thing will really make me happy but sometimes, things that we think will make us happy is in reality, not a factor to consider to make us happy. now, will you be really happy if the happiness you are feeling is sadness for others? will you still be happy if the happiness you feel is pain to other creatures? what is it really all about? hmmmm ^_^

I believe that everyone does want to be happy, somewhere in their core, but very few people are self-aware enough to truly understand WHAT it is that makes them happy. I also believe that happiness is a fleeting and temporary feeling, not one you can have all the time. It's a bit like the people who spend a life in search of "enlightenment." Moments of enlightenment and inner peace certainly DO happen, but they tend to be brief because life, and everything around us, is in a state of constant change. Besides, without sadness and suffering, we would have nothing to measure our happiness against... it's the constant variation that makes us able to even have a discussion like this. Nice topic!

happiness could never be reached... but in her search it deserves running all the life:P I mean the happiness is like an ideal... cos people need ideals... they don't need to reach them:)

I will be very happy when I achieve the state of happiness.Sucess is the only thing that makes me feel happy in my life. But I am not happy if the happiness which I feel is sadness for others.I am not happy if it is pain to other creatures. Life is full of choices and you have to make the right choice for yourself without hurting others. And if you have this art to feel happy without hurting others than you are perfect in living every second of life.

Hmmm...really good thought....Ones happiness may not always be happy for others. ofcourse everyone tries to be happy, even i try to be happy and to be frank i dont think money is the thing that makes happy, it may be the elimination of money ;D. and sometimes that thing which makes you happy will be the reason of sadness in the future.

If i reach the state of happiness without hurting the feeling of my loved ones defintly i will feel happy and enjoy my happiness. But surely i will not gain the happiness at the cost of hurting someone.I cannot enjoy such sort of happiness rather it will take me to sadness.Happiness as of me is something gained through some accomplishments, satisfaction of a thing done in a right time, making others feel comfort through anything done by me. I think the thought about happiness differs from person to person.

Your professor is right in his comments. Everyone wants to be happy but everyone's definition of happy and the state of happiness is different. I am happy if my family and friends are happy. If the stranger on the street is happy, I am happy too, but my happiness does not go away if he is not happy. So in essence, I am happy if people in my circle are happy. If everyone were to be happy only if the world is happy, then I am sure no one is happy as it is difficult to achieve that state of happiness. Even in meditation, one is in a state of happiness because of oneself.

Everybody deserves or has the right to be happy, it's one of our goals in life. But I can also say that happiness can be achieved by people who are contented, who knows how to appreciate and accept all the blessings an individual receives in life. As we reach for that certain goal we set in our lives, we always have the tendency to seek or look for more..

yes, as we achieved a goal, another goal, higher goal will be set to achieve another happiness that again, will make us feel good and happy about. =)

Well, if I achieved a state of happiness I would be happy by default yes!! :P It all comes down to ones ideal of what constitutes happiness..... It is like the saying - "One man's rubbish is another man's treasure"; what makes me happy could give another considerable sadness. I do know one thing though; and that is that the material things I once strived for are now pretty much irrelevant. Happiness to me is a sense of self; self acceptance basically. You are who you are so just try to be "you" the best you can!

i think that being happy every human being's desired end. although yes, it's hard to really pick what that one thing that makes us happy would be. for some it's money because we all need it. i guess happiness is just a state of mind and i think that even if we have all the riches in the world, everything that we could desire, having all these possessions will not guarrantee that we're gonna be happy. it has to be intrinsic. it's all a matter of disposition, how you view things. you can have less and still be happy. i guess what i'm saying is that only you can make yourself happy by starting from within, achieving that state of happiness from within, changing how you look at the world, how you deal with your everyday life, being content with what you have and what you don't have, being thankful, and really living life.

Happiness is a state of the mind where the individual feels that life is good. The pursuit of happiness is one of the primary goals of all humans. It all depends partly on external circumstances and partly on oneself. Literally speaking, happiness is everywhere and anywhere. It lies in the traits of each individual and how they perceive happiness. Having high self-esteem, optimistic mind, being extrovert, having a sense of personal control, maintaining good attitude and moderation in everything they do are examples of people who knows what happiness is.

only half yes it is. life continues to go on even if you have achieved your own happiness. You will also keep on reaching for that happiness because it does not stop there.

I think that everyone wants to be happy, no one would want to live a life feeling depressed or frustrated. Happy to me is determined by success. And by success that means you've achieved something which might not necessarily be measured by monetary gains. Even the simple action of making someone smile can makes one happy. It'll be quite amoral to derive happiness from other's misery. You might have extend to the fact that something like in a competition; there's could only be one winner, and if you happen to be the winner, i think you will still feel happy but not happy because of someone's loss but happy because you have did yourself proud. But I certainly would NOT approve of deliberate actions that causes harm to others.
