The telling thing about this whole farce is, there was supposed to be this huge national security breach with the "outing" of Valarie Plame. Yet, the guy who did the "outing" has never once even been charged with it. If it was such a bad crime, why isn't Armitage being charged?
Libby lied and should be punished for it. However, Fitzgerald already knew the facts, yet he continued the "investigation", so how could Libby have "obstructed justice".
If you ask me, the biggest criminal in this farce is Fitzgerald himself. How many millions did he defraud the taxpayers out of by keeping the investigation going over a year after there was nothing more to learn.

It's the worst kind of cronyism. The judicial branch should have been left to do its job. Perhaps the sentence was harsh, perhaps it wasn't. But there are harsh and disproportionate sentences handed down every day, and the President doesn't rub them out. Just for his friends I guess.
It's a shameful episode from this White House, and I'm frankly astonished that Bush would want to remind everyone of the tawdry way they tossed out National Security concerns when they wanted someone punished for speaking out.

The whole "investigation" was a farce! Fitzgerald knew who the "leaker" was a year before Libby was put under oath. The questioning was under false pretenses.
But let's not let the facts get in the way here.

The facts are that he, whether materially or not, obstructed an investigation. All he had to do was tell the truth, but that would have been embarrassing, so he lied.
The President has no business over-ruling court rulings for his friends. It stinks.

Scooter Libby should have never been charged. Scooter Libby should never have never gone to jail. Bill Clinton did the exact same thing that Libby was tried for, and we have Bill Clinton on video lying under oath to a grand jury. My belief is that if Clinton can walk free after purgering himself and obstucting justice, Libby should walk free for the same thing. The fact is the person who should be going to jail is Joe Wilson. Wilson created a story and then lied under oath at a Senate hearing and was the basis of Fitzgerald's investigation. But for some reason Libby is the one going to jail. Please someone explain that to me.

Yup, even Armitage seems to be forgotten. I guess that "crime" was sure terrible. I'm glad all those millions were spent on making sure the leaker paid! lol
