Does your family treat you different because you're a vegetarian?

My family is always trying to find ways to "break" me. I'll go to visit them and they'll only have meat dishes planned or they'll want to take me out to a steak house. They think that by only having meat available that'll be like "oh okay, in that case I'll have some meat too." No way. Why is that people who don't understand try to get you to be like them anyway?

You know what? I think it's horrible that your family can't accept your diet choice. I'm not a complete vegetarian yet, but I'm heading in that direction. I think it's a really healthy lifestyle in addition to being more environmentally responsible if it's done right. My family is a meat-and-potatoes type of family too, and they think I'm nuts- but during the two weeks when I decided to be all-vegetarian to see how I liked it, they were respectful and didn't try to make me eat any meat. True, they teased me a lot, but they didn't go any further than that.
I think for you, persistance will probably pay off. Eventually, they've got to realize that you're just not going to eat meat- and you have plenty of good reasons not to. If it comes down to it, you might have to tell them that unless they can respect your choices, you're simply not coming over for dinner anymore.
Good luck, and happy veggie-eating.

It can be hard to make the switch at first. But eventually you'll find so many wonderful meals that you can make without meat. And there are great substitutes too if you miss it.
Have you tried Morning Star products, if you have those where you live? They have a great bacon imitation, chicken nuggets, corndogs, hot dogs, chicken burgers, hamburgers, and more! I think they're wonderful and some of them are really close to the real thing!
Hey thanks, happy veggie-eating to you too! :)

Nah, they just want me to be like them. They can't accept that I'm different. They think I'm becoming a "tree-hugger."

Then that can easily be added by vitamim pills. Meat eaters suffer from much more than vegetarians. Vegetarians tend to have a longer life span too by a few years.
Anyway, my family isn't concerned about health. They're just concerned that I'm "different" than they are.
