Have you experienced a neighbor who is fond of borrowing things and forgetting to return them unless you go out of your way to remind them? We had this kind of a neighbor once. They kept on borrowing things, from home repair tools down to kitchen utinsels. You name it, they borrow it. For me, its just ok as I try to understand their situation. But what is not ok for me is they tend to forget to return what they borrow, unless you remind them. Its good that they have now moved elsewhere. I have no more borrowed items to think about Have you experienced this kind of a neighbor also?

I had about five or six movies on vhs and a contractor asked if he and his wife could "borrow them" i said sure..the next day he told me he and his wife went to a store and someone stold them out of his car..he said he never locks his cars..sorry, no offer to pay him back..i stopped using his services after that.. another time a guy at work borrowed my Elvis presely collections of "Gospel and Hyms" that he sang..and I never got hit back..he told me he have it to his daugher and she lost it.. Yes, food it something i don't lend anymore..as I never borrow this from neighbors..one time a neighbor wanted to borrow some clothes pins and my wife told him NO..he was fixing his swimming pool cover..but it is best just never borrow or lend..even one egg or a stick of butter..it leads to bigger requests in the future.. one guy said can I borrow your pick up truck? and I asked him :"can i borrow your wife?" he said " i won't hurt your truck!" and I told him " well, I won't hurt your wife either''''''''''''" lol

I have experienced this recently and I get asked for sugar, baking powder, chicken peices and other cooking or baking things. I don't mind at times as she is willing to pay for it, but if its a cup of something I don't take it, but when its a pkt of chicken peices that cost me $5 or more then I take the $$. The only thing annoying with that is she has a car to go and buy more, but I don't so if I need chicken peices I have to hop on the bus or take a taxi to buy more. That's the only thing I don't like about lending things.

maddysmommy my friend, what an irony you have there. I just hope she realizes what she is doing and stop those things that she is used to do. Thanks for responding.

borrowing neighbours are always a nuisance as they have a habit of askin for every other thing they know we might be having ..it becomes worse if they dont return things in time..

they're a nuisance. they don't have manners, and i don't think they respect you enough not to put in mind the things that they borrow from you. if they keep doing this, maybe because you keep on lending to them also and you're just feeding to them their ill-manners. enough of the 'kindness' and give them their deserved 'word of wisdom'.

My husband is a "borrowing neighbor" so to speak. He just procrastinates everything anyway, but he will borrow stuff from the neighbor or his dad, like tools, and when I see them in the shed, I have to remind him to return them. We don't live close to a lot of people that know us that well, so I don't have to lend anything out, but if I did, I would like to have it returned.

my neighbors have only borrowed one thing from us. I don't make it a habit to lend things very often now because I have had neighbors before that used to borrow from us a lot. Once you get into the habit of lending, they seem to want to borrow more and more.

my goodness, i have some neighbors like that, even food spices , vinegar and oil, even salt they borrow from me.and they never return. then i realized that they are just wanting to empty my kitchen LOL. now they cannot ask from me anymore. i always say NO, NONE,NOTHING. i have learned my lesson, being generous is wrong sometimes, they might abuse you!

hehehehe... good thing we don't have that kind of neighbor. we live in this neighborhood for three years now and happily, we don't have that kind of neighbors in this area. that's pretty happy. i couldn't imagine having their kind in our place. i live in a peaceful environment. our neighbors have their own lives. we never have much interaction except when there are celebrations like birthdays and Christmas. but for normal days, we live our own lives. that's better than being attacged to them and getting really close that they will start borrowing your stuffs and wouldn't return it right?hehehe now that your neighbor has transferred to a new place, let's just wish that their new neighbors wont be bothered with them borrowing stuffs the whole time!hehe and are you sure they were not able to bring some stuffs of yours that they borrowed and that they were not able to return?hehe

Hello Molusk!!! We are used to lending things even stuffs for cooking to our neighbors to some family members. This is common during occasions, we invite them and let them bring home some food, yet they never return the tupper ware or any container used. We would have to ask them to return the things everytime. Like what beauty_ph said, it's very annoying. Sad to say these still happens to us, it's my mom who is letting it happen, she just can't say no to them.

I had one once that constantly borrowed food items like soup for casseroles etc. Finally I would just tell her that I didn't have any. The last time I borrowed something though was a special copy of Gone with the Wind. She said she misplaced it and I never got it back. I don't borrow things out anymore.

Those are the kind of neighbors that should not borrow things, as they do not know how to return the things they borrow. Thanks jillhill for sharing.

We used to lend things to our neighbors. Even if they do not return them that we just need to ask from them everytime we need to use it. It is anoying. I think we stopped lending things when one of the borrowed items was destroyed or damaged. So at this time we simply tell them it is in another house, we mean the house of my brother, more than 10kms away from us, where I usually sleep.

beauty_ph, my friend. Good for them. They were the ones who forced you to do it. If only they know how to return things. Thanks for sharing, beauty_ph
