I grew up thinking it was a complete sin that smoking and drinking was a sin against God! Do you think that is true? Now I don't believe that anymore. I know the bible says not to be drunk but I don't see where it clearly says not to drink unless I missed the scripture? Smoking will I guess people say we have to take care of our bodies and smoking does damage! I still see a lot of people today that really get upset when christians smoke and drink! What do you think about it?

I grew up to being taught that drinking and smoking was something that non christians did and that that was something that the world did. Now as I am an adult I think that for smoking it is just plain bad for you and you shouldn't do it but for drinking I think that as long as you are not drinking with the intent to get plastered and just enjoying a drink then it is okay. What is sin or wrong for one christian may not be for another

The rule is that Christians can drink, but they should do it in moderation. They just should not get plastered. Smoking was unknown then, but if it were, the rule would apply in moderation. Also with smoking, there is the danger of addiction, more than drinking, and even with professing Christ, a Christian may have trouble overcoming it. The Church Elders probably also told them to stop smoking.

It's wisest to abstain from both, but I think the real sin lies in the addiction. If you can smoke and drink without becoming addicted I don't think it's a sin, but particularly with smoking, why push it?

When I first gave my life to Christ as an adult in 1996, I was smoking and drinking and a few more things that are not becoming of Christian behavior. I had to get to the point where I wanted to change those things and then admit that I could not do it without God.
The hardest thing to stop was the smoking. It took me two years to finally quit, after I became serious about it. It was very hard. But, I just kept feeling like God could not use me if I smoked. How would I look witnessing and blowing smoke into peoples faces.
I believe that this is one of those situations where only God can judge what you really want. True Christians long to please God with all of their hearts and God knows what it will take for deliverance. I once heard someone say that smoking will not send you to hell, but you will sure smell like you have been there.

I do not believe that smoking or drinking is a sin. I think that being a drunkard is sinful all the more if you have a family that relies on your stability and you are squandering the family's money away on booze.
I do believe being addicted to smoking is a vice, but if a man smokes only on occasion as a relaxation or social thing, I see nothing inherently wrong with that.

No...cause unless you are born again, you renew your life and smoking and drinking can't give you good health and it is against God's will so christians should not do it.

this is difficult to say, one thing is true, in the bible is a scripture about drinking to much. I do no know where it is but it is there. One thing I know is that your body is a temple for God, so if you are damaging your body (it can also be eating to much, or other things) it is a sin. For me it is easy talking because I do not smoke, drink or eat to much. I think it is not good when christians are smoking and drinking, but everyone must make there own choises.

It is true. It's not only for the christiians but for all. People can drink but in a moderate way. Smoking can cause you many symptoms, so better not to try this or start this anyway. It's really hard to know that some christian cannot discipline their selves for them to avoid that, but we cannot blame them. God given us the freedom to choose our own path.

it is forbid in the bible.. as our body is temple of god... smoking hurts our body.. why would you want to smoke that hurts your body?? God create perfectly.. if you smoke your damaging you own body.. i think its not right to smoke..
Drinking for me i guess its ok but use it in good purpose.. if you get drunk then it sin.
Well, i hope you can stop smoking and don't drink much..
Good luck

I think it is fine for Christians to smoke or drink. It is their body, their right to choose. I don't feel it is my right to judge what other people do to their own bodies. Now if by drinking or smoking they are putting someone else in danger, that is when I have a problem with it. If you drink and drive, I consider that a problem. If you smoke around a baby that can't get up and walk away, I think that is very unfair to the baby. God is the ultimate judge. As someone else has stated, we are all sinners.

It is if you beleive it is. Just like everyone else, they read the bible and and can read the exact same words but understand them many different ways. Do I think it's a sin? No, I don't. Do I think it's wise? Not all the time.
As for the people that get upset when they see christians smoking and drinking. How do they feel when they see nonchristians smoking and drinking? Do they just not care?

Every sin is a "complete" sin, big or small, a sin is a sin. And everyone sins, even christians. Smoking and drinking both damage the body which is the holy temple. I am a christian and I smoke regularly and drink on occasion. I'm not proud of it, I sin. But by God's grace, we are forgiven. One day (hopefully soon)I will not smoke anymore, but I will still sin, it's inevitable.
