Is it practical to keep multiple email accounts?

I have two yahoomail accounts and other accounts in gmail and hotmail. I deemed it practical to keep more than one email account since alternative email addresses would be needed in cases when primary email ads don't work.

I only used to have an msn address, but strangely enough, with some websites I wouldn't receive the activation e-mail I needed. So I tried signing up to yahoo, and that solved the problem.
I now have an man address, and two yahoo ones. The first is mine, the second I share with my friends. :)

I have different emails to suit different purposes. One email will be for my business correspondences. Another email will be for my personal correspondences. I have a third one to be used for general purpose. It is a little tedious at times to check each one daily. After a while, I got used to it.
