Do you prefer to have a high chair for your baby during meals or not?

In our country, we don't usually use high chairs but I'm interested to use it for my daughter. I believe it will train her to eat by herself soon.

My baby has a high chair, but nowadays he wants to sit at the table like the big people. So I will have to break down and get him a booster seat like in the restaurants. But we have used the high chair pretty much since he was old enough to sit up by himself. If you dont use a high chair, how do you feed a baby? Do you hold him? And wouldnt that make it more difficult for you to feed him and not get messy?

Well, we hold them on our lap and feed them. It is really uncomfortable and messy but it's the way things go on here. Some people carry the baby and while dancing or walking to get the attention of the baby, they are feeding the baby. Some still, lets the baby in the walker or if she can walk they follow the baby with the food, it's like playing with the baby.

I love high chairs. I run a daycare and have 3 high chairs that we use every day. I keep the kids in the high chair until they are about 3. This does keep them contained when they are eating. It makes it much easier because they can't squirm around. It helps them focus on eating rather than playing.

In my country almost every restaurant does provide high chairs for customers’ small kids. For those restaurants where high chairs are not available customers themselves will pile up two or three chair so as the kids could be in level with the surface of the table.
In this the way the parents will be more relax and they don’t have to carry the small kids while eating. The small kids too have the opportunity to learn how to take food in the public together with their parents.

Once my kids were able to sit up by themsleves, they ate in a high chair. Even when I fed them their baby food.
I'm not sure if it helps train them or not. I would give them a little bit of finger foods on the tray when they were old enough and they had great fun!
