I have found that ppl, kind of, return thanks in various ways. it's, to some extent, culture, region, race oriented. Do you know, what is the right gesture to return a conversional gratitude? For me, its depends on the situation and I usually say, YOU ARE WELCOME or MY PLEASURE, PLEASURE IS ALL MINE...and stuff like that.
So, how do you guys hnadle a THANKS. Here, i am not talking about the feeling of ecstasy or gratitude but i would like to know about basic verbal reaction - the immediate waords that come to your mind on hearing I THANK YOU.

When someone says 'Thanks' to me...I feel a sense of gratitude and a feeling of reciprocation.
I think..and think..... how to reciprocrte it...I would say...'YOU ARE MOST WELCOME! and 'it is my pleasure' and sometimes I, in return say 'Thanks' with another 'Thanks'.
'Aakay bhanyvad ka mai aabhari huoo'
'AApka hardik swagat hai'.

yeah, that's what even i say. i think, it's a spontaneous thing and as far as YOU are concerned you reciprocate it doubly, i am sure.
Thanx for being a lovely person.

first of all i would like to say a few words. people nowadays in this fast life dont have time to say sorry or thanks when it should be said. only a few people are still following the rules. i've seen many many people who would dash on u or stamp your feet or push you and would not even care to say a sorry. they would just see your face and leave the place. and similarly when someone helps you carry or opens the door for you when your hjands are busy or something likethat only a few would say thanks in return. and i value such people. i would give them back a broad pleasant smile and say welcome or thats all right.

rightly said - much appreciated.
even, i have found some ppl around getting careless and self centered and in a venture to keep up with the fast world they hardly reckon values and decorum. but, i feel, there are many like us, who make the world such a lovely place and whenever i get a sweet response my day's been made.
thanx dear for sharing.

I use a few responses to acknowledge a thankyou. Which i use depends usually on who I'm talking to and the situation I'm in. The common ones are;
You're welcome, That's alright, No problem, No ~ thank-YOU, Nae bother (regional dialect meaning No problem).

Hi mimpi1911
I won't say thanks to the people who are close to me. I usually say thanks to the people with whom I am not so close and with whom I meet formally. I say thanks to the elder people too. So it all depends on with whom I am interacting with.

Hmm. Just a simple genuine smile using the eyes more than the lips. Then saying "You're welcome" or "No problem lah" using my mouth.
I think there's no one "right" gesture in reciprocating gratitude. You're right in saying it depends on a person's culture, region and race, i guess.
We, Asians are brought up to be polite to others although i can see that slowly eroding in many young children these days.

Yes, the erosion is getting rapid, more than ever and this is kind of scary.

It depends on the reason they thank me for.
If i congratulate them for something and they say thank you, i would not say anything or just give a smile.
If i do a small help and they thank me for that, then its just a "welcome" or "that's alright".
If i take a lot of trouble and do them a great favour they badly needed to be done, then i would say "its my pleasure" and i mean it. It would really be my pleasure because if i don't take it as a pleasure, its hard to do such difficult tasks for others without a benefit.

I often respond with "your welcome" or "no problem" or something to that effect. Sometimes, when people are overly gracious, and thankful, I find myself a bit embarrassed and at a loss for words beyond a "your welcome".

yeah it depends on the person's culture. like in the philippines we simply nod or smile. we don't say you're welcome coz we're used to it and for us it's enough. in the states, from what i've noticed, people make it a point to say "you're welcome" or "my pleasure" or "no problem" or "don't mention it." it's like an automatic thing. i'm curious how it goes with other countries.

In my country, dianne, ppl kind of smile or give an earnest gesture, as you have said. but with globalisation they are adapting fast and now the present generation is quite up with spontaneous response.
Thanks for sharing.

Usually I will just say something to the effect of "it's my pleasure". Either that or I will just smile.
No big deal, just a thank-you.:P

I respond saying Welcome or it's ok. Along with that I give a smile to the person. A smile can bring smile on other person's face.

I have to say that I always say thank you when someone serves me in a shop, bar or restaurant, or if someone gives me way whilst walking down the street and if say, there are roadworks and only one of us can pass, or when another car give my car way. I have been brought up by my parents to have good manners and I would feel mortified if anyone ever said I was lacking in manners as I strive to be civil, polite and friendly to everyone I encounter. When someone says thanks to me, I always respond with a smile and say something like "that's ok", "my pleasure", "you're welcome" or even "no problem"! I never let someone thank me without responding. I do feel, though, that when I thank people, about 80% of the time people don't bother replying, which doesn't really shock me anymore! I have pretty much got used to the laziness in today's society or the fact that people just haven't been brought up as well as they used to in previous times. No matter, I will continue to use the good manners I have been brought up with and use please, thank you and sorry in my vocabulary whenever needed:)

hi friend,
i am really moved by your gesture. i just wish a few more people try and be like you. i try to reciprocate to my utmost and naturally i kind of expect the same from others as well. but, i should not be judgemntal, i try to ignore their cold shoulders.
Thanx sweetie.
Love and hugs.

It depends who is thanking me and for what. Usually I respond with "You're welcome" to strangers and "No problem!" to my friends and family.
