How old were you or your children when they said their first words? what was their first word? My son is about 11 months and is so close to talking i'm sure of it, but he just can't spit those words out. lol. So i'm just curious about what the average age is.

My nephew was ten or eleven months when he said Hi, but my son is only six months and he already calls me Mada. I thought he was just babbling at first, but his eyes brighten and he gets excited and calls me Mada whenever he sees me. It's strange, I've never seen it so early before.

my son was about 8 or 9 months old and he started to say daa daa every time his dad walked in or out of the room, and also when ever he used to be left with me, he screamed for daa daa, i found this quite distressing as he went through a stage of not liking me holding him i could not calm him which was bad as my partner was working and it was me and baby!!!
He is 6 years old now and loves me(AT LAST) and his dad the same!
he also used to call our cat Baa Baa short for baby god knows why as he was called charlie blue eyes lol.
every child is different though, babbling is completly normal for babies just babble back to them they still love it, or read books back to them

I can imagine that would be distressing. It's the opposite in our family. Bo loves me and his dad can't calm him down. He babbles a lot, so i think he's getting close to saying those first words, but i just can't wait. lol

MOst boys move first and speak later, while most girls do the reverse. My son was about 10 months when he started speaking "intelligibly". He was saying baba at 6 months (his blue bear), but I didn't think that counted.
Blessed Be

Mine was 5mos old, she began saying mama, yes it was her first words. I'm just wondering why, it was the first time she cried out loud(she was frightened by one of our friend) really, then we heard her say 'mama'. I can't help but carry her, I'm so touched...
