Why would you blame the whole thing on Tom, I wonder? Each of the members had solo projects going, and have for years. The one wanted to take time off to spend with his family, so who can really blame Tom for pursuing his side project more seriously in the meantime? Just because one wants a break doesn't mean they all have to. *shrug*
As a group, I think the best songs they did were their later ones ... I Miss You, Always, etc. Although Dammit is a classic.

yer but lk....wasnt it Tom who desided to have time wit his family, and with in a few weeks he started a new band? Which is now his full time band... Didnt he also have Blink 182 agent to ffon up Mark and Travis to tell them that Toms quit the band??? :/ and didnt Mark have any side projects
