we called yesterday to find out how much it would be for our daughter to get her license and insurance..She is 20..I is going to cost 1000 for 6 months...man is that high or what

I agree that $1000 premium for six months is quite high. I pay less than that for a year. I have a post in my blog outlining several ways to save money on auto insurance. The most important thing is to shop around. I got quotes from $800 to $1800 for the same coverage from different insurance companies. That's incredably high. Unless she had a horrible driving record, I can't think of a reason it would be that high. I would call around and look for a better deal. Or look online, most companies can give you an estimate on their website (although actually calling the company can get you an even better deal sometimes.)
Being a first time driver ups the rate a bit, but her being older should help counter that.
Also, if your family has more than one car and you are adding her to your policy, only put her on as a driver on one of the cars, preferably the oldest/safest one.
