At a Restaurant: Would you send your dish back?

Would you send a dish back if you were eating out, if it did not taste good or you received the wrong food?
I would if I received the wrong food, but not if it didn't taste good. I think I'm way too nervous about that, that maybe the chef will just wipe off spices or something and send it back out.
I used to work as a server and hostess for a mid-range restaurant here in Canada, and I saw some horrors in the kitchen, so I don't think I'd really trust anywhere just in case a cook or a chef took offense to me not enjoying his/her culinary masterpiece and doing something weird to the food before sending it back.
What about you? Would you send it back for any reason? Or would you eat it without saying anything and not tip, or just not ever come back to that particular restaurant?

yes i will,I'm paying for it so i think i have the right to complain if i didn't get what i really order, sometimes that actually happen to me, i will ask them to cook my meat well done but i will get the medium rare that i hate the most coz sometimes the blood still dripping in it so i will ask the waitress/waiter to cook it properly.

Yeah, me too.. When it comes to meat, I usually give it back if they didn't do it right. After all, they did ask how we want it done right? So I guess it wouldn't be a problem if we gave it back. :)

hello breepeace!
i really don't like sending my food back.
ever since i've seen a tv show which shows what happens in the kitchen in restaurants, i make sure not to send back food, nor offend the waiter..
the show featured some really gross and sick things that they do. some waiters spit on the food, and some other MORE gross things, you can't even imagine.
if i was not satisfied with the food or service, i just don't give that much tip. and i don't go back to the place anymore.

I'm like you too. I won't send back the food, it would be a disaster doing that.

yes i would definatly send the food back as i have done on several occasions if i am there to enjoy a meal then thats what i plan to do and i want the meal that i ordered and i want it to taste good.. who doesnt lol... i was a cook at a resturant and had food sent back i would say half a dozen times in a 3 years and never once did i ever do anything to anyones food.. one time a man sent it back his food three times and the third time i went out and asked him how he would like it prepared.. he explained it to me and i returned to the kitchen and cooked it just how he wanted it and took it out to his table it was perfect the waitress ended up with a 50 dollar tip and he told management that was the best service he had ever recieved and he became a regular was there twice a week with his wife.. so if the cook is a professional they wont have a problem about recooking just always be nice and polite to the waitress or waiter because they are the ones conveying the message and its that persons attitude that comes thru to the cook

I would send it back if it is not what I ordered. If it did not taste good, I would try to eat it, but leave most of it on my plate. In the first place, there was an error that should be corrected. In the second place the cook was inexperienced. If the head chef sees that and especially if a whole lot of customers do the same, he will probably fire that cook and get a new one. I would also think seriously about coming back to that restaurant.

I usually would only send the food back if it was the wrong food. I have also sent it back though in cases where the well done steak was still red inside, or the rare one was practically burned. If I don't consider the food edible, I will not eat it.

Hi there. I have returned food at one the local restaurants, actually this place was where I once worked, due to finding a bone in my Italian flavoured pizza I was compensated for it, with the choice of a free desserts for four people and another pizza... Which I gladly went in the back and watch them make it lol...

After seeing a program on what they do when you send your food back in a restaurant I would never send my food back again, my partner and I have been to several restaurants and have not enjoyed our meals for one reason or another and when this is the case we just dont return to this restaurant again! We have had some pretty bad meals over the time and we tend to go back to the same restaurants now because we find the meals are nice and well priced!

THIS is the reason why my sister calls me a pushover.. because even if the waiter/waitress got my order wrong, I would still eat it anyway. I am not a picky eater anyway. I would check with them though, probably it was sent to a wrong table. But if the waiter/waitress said that they mixed up the order, i wouldn't bother to send it back. Also because, by then I'd be really really hungry and i also wouldn't trust my food going back to where it came from. Haha.

Depends on the restaurant. But if I don't know the restaurant I would be leery of doing this. My wife and I had restaurants and she and I always took good care of the customers but some of our hired help were very different. I have seen cooks take it out on the customer and you would not want to know what they did to your food. But we did not allow this but we were not always in the kitchen all the times.
I would not blame the waiter if the food was cooked improperly..tell the manager first or the owner but some cooks take this as a personal insult and will not always treat the situation the way they should

Only if were completely wrong, or contained something I was allergic too, and asked for it not to be present in the food, otherwise no, I'm not that picky. I go out with a couple sometimes that send their food back over the tiniest thing and they do it so often it's embarrasing.

I would have no problem sending back food that was not prepared correctly or was not what I ordered. The cost of eating out is exhorbitant and there is no way I would suffer through a bad dish when paying a lot of money to eat! As for worrying that a chef might do something to the food, I suppose that is a risk one must take. I used to teach an assertiveness training course and sending back food in a restaurant was one of the examples we used to teach assertiveness!

Absolutely, I would send it back if it weren't done right. I'm paying for it, so they need to cook it my specifications. I'm not rude or anything, but I'm very forceful to the fact that I'm not eating what I don't like. For instance, I ordered broiled flounder at a fish restaurant not long ago, and they brought out this fish that was stuffed wiht crab meat. I am one of those wierd people who just doesn't like the taste of crab. I told the waitress, I only want the fish, not the stuffing. It's on your menu...is there a problem? She said well, this is more expensive, so if you just want to keep it, I'll only charge you for the lesser priced menu item! NO! This isn't what I want. I finally got my fish, but I was so angry after having to practically beg her for what I wanted, it just didn't taste very good.

I only send the food back when:
i) they've mixed up my order
ii) there's mayonnaise in which I specifically tell them, No Mayo!
iii) the meat on my burger, steak, etc, is not done properly (after all they did ask us how we want it done right?)
Other than that, I don't send the food back. If it's not delicious, I'll just keep in mind not to order that dish anymore or not to come back to that restaurant anymore.. :P
