I've used a couple of Linksys wireless routers before. It's a pretty solid wireless router. Although depending on which version you have, you are able to use third party firmwares which essentially provides more options and greater control which makes it favorite for wireless enthusiasts.
Check out www.linksysinfo.org to see which routers are able to use third party firmwares. Very informative site and the people on the board are very helpful as well.

All companies and their products are going to have ups and downs. Take a look at the "prestigious" Apple iPods. There 1st generation was fairly successful, yet there were a large amount of problems and bugs as well which were slowly fixed in the following generations.
For me, I've had good experience with Linksys routers. Although I do a lot of research and review on the latest products before I make any decision and purchases.

To tell you honestly, I don't like the latest versions of Linksys router. It needs to be firmware upgraded when you just bought the product. And I don't see the point of doing that though. I mean, it's brand new, right? Why didn't they release the product with its latest firmware version inside? But the product is quiet good though.

THe only routers that need to be upgraded even brand new are the WRT54G Versions 5 and 6, WRT54GS Versions 5 and 6 and WRT300N Version1. The reason is because this routers were made in china and there chipsets have a memory base of 128 mb. The chipset is a low quality based silicon which is made in china so to make it work properly you need to upgrade it.
