Mohair?

My grandmother gave me a bag of mohair yarn today, but since I'm new at knitting I'm unsure of what I can do with that type of yarn. I'm used to cotton or whool so this is new ground. :) Any ideas for things that I can make out of mohair? Does it suit for something special?

What a lovely gift! Mohair is light and fluffy but very warm. I have used to before for scarves. What is your kitting level? Are you comfortable with lace work...or would you like to learn? Becuase mohair is so fluffy and warm, it makes GREAT lace scarves. I have made a few using simple lace patters and large needles. They look really impressive, but weren't that difficult at all. They also make great gifts! Check out some of these patterns and see if they interest you: http://www.sweaterbabe.com/product_kp8.htm http://www.knitlist.com/99gift/mohair-scarf.htm http://www.thimble.ca/?p=294%22%20target=%22_blank I hope this helped....Happy knitting.

Thank you for your great reply! I have been knitting some simple scarves before and just started learning how to do more complicated work, so those links will sure come in handy. Your reply helped a lot!

well i am sure you could use mohair for anything just like you do any other kind of yarn i have never heard of mohair yarn before i like to use wool yarn to knit with also i like how natural it is i would love to learn how to spin my own yarn and make my own to knit with but no such luck so far i have sheep and angora goats so getting the wool and angora if it is really soft it would be good to make a sweater for yourself or a big fluffy winter blanket with
