Why is religion so important in today's time? Is there a quota to fill in each religion, and if so, what would make someone want to change the way they're going to believe in something that can't actually be proved?

I don't think that religion is important to fill quotas, but more along the lines of people having something to believe in. Things may not be able to be proven in religion, but today, that doesn't matter. There are plenty of reasons to believe in things you can't see, like aliens, so people make excuses for religion in the exact same ways. It's just something to bring people together, to let them have faith in something higher than themselves.
