being as another lighter went through today... usually when i do laundry for the family, like sometimes i'll be nice and do my brother's for him if he's busy,i check the pockets first,so nothing goes in that shouldn't..but every now and then i'll forget. any change i find i consider a tip,and is therefore mine LOL but, what has gone through yours when you forgot to check? and did you yell at them for not emptying them? i've had washer nuts,screws,lighters(!),keychains.. kleenex (oh i hate that, shreds all over),an ipod, to name a few..

Yep, been there! 1 ipod, ruined forever!!! But what I really hate is when chapstick or lip balm get left in a pocket. Then, in the dryer, it melts all over the place and makes horrible spots on the clothes that are almost impossible to get out!

I have once when doing my laundry, then after the machine have done the task, I look and inside there are something like jelly. Oh no! I have thought that something was in the washing machine and accidentally put it! My baby diapers Pampers!! Ooo My god! I felt like to faint. I was lucky that the cloth are not all affected with the jelly. After that, I will do inspection before washing clothes and then no more diapers will be put as laundry anymore! :P

True. Big mess and I was so careful now. Checking every piece of cloth before I do the laundry!

oh no! those things sure absorb the water. that silica gel I am surprised it did not stick to all your other clothing and ruin it. I can see you must have been very relieved.

Well, I have been lucky so far, & it was just maybe a missed coin that went through the washer &/or dryer. I actually had a friend who loaded up the washer at the laundromat, & was about to make a phone call on her cell phone, but could not find it. Guess where the cell phone was ... After waiting, it was indeed no longer working. It meant that she did not have a cell phone for a couple of days. However, she saw it as a blessing in disguise, because she had intended to change carriers, & that needing a replacement cell phone was what enabled her to actually do just that.

I actually washed my hubby wallet once. The whole thing, kit and caboodle. Do you know the really amazing thing? The little scraps of paper he had in there didn't shred or get destroyed. Just the edges of some of business cards, but that's because they are too long for his wallet. I think the fact that I have a front load washer is what saved that poor thing. But, he learned his lesson. I don't empty pockets, so whatever is in them when I was, will get washed! LOL!

I could wash 20 pairs of jeans, and check the pockets of 19 of them, and find nothing, and forget to check the 20th pair, and wash everything in them. Not to mention things that fall off the shelf(with the help of my cats)into the washer before I shut the door, without noticing. I have washed: nails, pens, pins, nuts and bolts, lighters, wallets, rocks, money, can lids(don't ask), kleenex, a roll of toilet paper, partial roll of paper towels, pill bottles, deodorant, ear mite medicine, chap stick, matches, a cell phone, a can of lysol spray, etc: The list could go on and on.... lol

Yes, the toilet made a major mess. Another thing that I have washed, far too many of, are those grease pens, that my youngest son uses at work. They make a really big mess, and ruin alot of clothes, if you don't catch them before they hit the dryer! Then you have black grease spots on everything. I have ruined alot of clothes like that. I hate those things!

I haven't had anything too horrendous go through the washer. Usually just chapstick or some money. I typically like to check my pockets before I ever do any laundry because of the fact that I usually find a lot more money than I thought I had! I'm always so disappointed when I don't have any money in my pockets, but it's always a crucial part of laundry for me. I was at a cookout the other day and someone there was talking about crayons through the wash! I'm glad that wasn't me!

as long as it doesn't make it to the dryer.. that would be almost as bad as chapstick..it's pretty close.

My chapstick always makes it out before the dryer luckily. However, that woman at the cookout didn't have such luck with crayon. It totally went through the dryer too. But she did figure out how to get it out and luckily it worked.

I do my little brothers laundry as well. He has a tendency to leave pens and money in his pockets. One time a pen broke in the washer and stained all of his and my shirts and shorts.

I have not had anything like an Ipod go thru my washer but I have found crayons, candy wrappers, and one time did find a lighter. Fortunately, these things fell out of the pockets before I could transfer them to the dryer or that would have been a mess!

Hmmm, good discussion,. i have found a number of interesting items. The worst would be hubbies hankies, all screwed up. They have been used, & of course, don't wash properly when they are all bunched up in a pocket. I have also found money, lolly papies, bits of torn tissue, biros, etc.

Most of what goes through my washer is change, although I have rescued a couple of dollar bills. I had to dry them out and tape one of them back together when it came out though. I found an entire wallet one day, but I decided that I couldn't keep that for a tip. I have also found lighters, screws, nuts and bolts in my washer. What really made me mad though was the chocolate candy bar that my son must have had in his pocket. It made an awful mess on everything. I can just imagine the kleenex though. I can just bet that was awful.

The bills don't go through the washer very often. My son has gotten better about checking his pockets now. He doesn't like it when he loses things. The last time I found one I told him that if he wanted to give me a couple of dollars for doing his laundry it was ok, but I didn't need to be laundering money for him...

The worst is tissues and I do yell when they go through, augh - what a mess. our machine is on the fritz so I have had to go to the laundry matt the last few times. the other day I was watching a front load machine spinning round and round - and a pen kept popping up front.... I am thinking she'll be glad that wasn't a chocolate bar, but I am sure a pen could do a lot of damage too. I've had keys go through... usually though it is money and I do not mind when they forget to empty their pockets of change and sometimes $bills because I consider that my tip for doing the laundry :) works out nice for me.

Hi scarlet_woman! Oh, I have a few...coins (just like you I regard them as a tip...lol), lighters, notes, receipts, keys and a celfone (which was ruined beyond repair). I do check on the pockets before I do the laundry but sometimes I just miss one item or two. With the celfone, I was not the one actually responsible for that because my brother hurriedly put his trousers straight to the washer with the ones I have already checked. Before he finally remembered it, the washer has already been running for half an hour.lol! Well, that's just what I could share with you right now. Have a nice day!

Oh yes. I have seen many things come through the wash. I do tell my kids and husband to clean their pockets out. But you know with kids. Sometimes they have so many pockets. They forget which one they have emptied already. I have seen cellphones, money (I take as a tip as well. Unless they ask for it.),bolts, nails, screws, paper, tissue (that always sucks), numerous toy cars and hair pieces.

My husband works in a factory, so nuts, bolts, and screws are common for me to find. I hate when tissues are left in pockets, what a mess. A few toys, a couple of barbie dolls, and the worst was a permanent marker. The cap came off, and what a mess!

Oh wow--being a mom, I have seen all kinds of things--first and foremost, any money found belongs to the washer of the clothes (mom has her own tip jar for this LOL). I have had lighters, batteries (regular and rechargeables), toys, screws, nails, washers, scraps of paper with phone numbers or email addys, report cards (darn thing was shredded to BITS--what a mess), Barbie clothes and accessories, pacifiers, car keys,oh the list seems endless. However the one thing that got washed and dried once that made one HUGE mess was a BLUE CRAYON---oh man was I HOT over that one--ruined an ENTIRE load of clothes including some brand new items. Each time I find something, I give the same age-old lecture of 'empty your pockets BEFORE putting the clothes in the washer' LOL

Lighters are a fairly common one around here. I'm always surprised when they still work! :) I have also put a container of lip gloss through the washer, but I found it before it hit the dryer! Money also goes through on a somewhat regular basis, usually just change, but that's not too big of a deal. The one that probably used to happen the most frequently, however, was those little red and blue tickets that you get at the fair or for raffles or something. We used them in a game we used to play, and pretty much every week, I would find at least one in the pockets of something that one of us had worn to the game. As long as it was in the dark load, no big deal... but leaving a red ticket in the white load could be disastrous!

I have had a lot of stuff go throught that should not have. Yes...the kleenex thing is very annoying! However, the worst thing that has gone through for me is when I leave pens in my pockets. They end up exploding and getting ink all over my clothes. I have done this a few times. :( cheers,
