I was just wondering on tips on keeping the pets cool. I dont mean using the AC. I mean other than that... we dont live in a SUPER hot area but its been getting warmer even in our area. I have a dog and two cats. I dont super worry about them. I'm more worried about the fish tank, with the water getting lower and lower cause of the heat. The biggest worry comes down to one of the smallest. I have a hamster and I am doing ALL I can to keep her cool. I've never had a tiny pet and the summer is taking its toll on her. I put her in the bathroom coolest room in the area. I put a small fan in there to keep her cage cool. But still she looks all sweaty well a little damp on the furr. Is this normal? So any tips on keeping pets cool in the summer?? It would be helpful anything thanx. Happy Summer everyone! Hope yours is cooler then well mine. We cant use the AC too much either sorry jsut fans and windows open! Thanx for all your thoughts! :))

Just make sure all the pets haave plenty of water. And someplace cool and shady to lie in. For the hamster, don't put her cage up high. The heat will rise. Make sure she has some sort of dark hidey-hole to go in. Old toilet paper rolls work good for this and are easily replacable. If you still aren't sure if the hamster is ok, call a vet and ask. They shouldn't want to see her for this kind of question. Our cats find the darkest spots in the closet or under the bed and sleep. Dogs like to splash in kiddie pools. Watch the temp in the aquarium. if it gets high, turn off the heater for awhile. Hope this helps. :)

fans, cool dark areas, sounds like you're doing all you can. For outside pets, you can get a cheap plastic wading pool like for little kids and keep some water in it. My friend has two dogs that will just lie in the pool (she only keeps about 3 - 4 inches of water in there).

I believe so long as you have a lot of fresh water around for them and some shady spots they tend to find the coolest spot for themselves, animals have their own way of keeping cool some people shave dogs where I have read this is wrong that the fur is a part of their cooling system, I think being under the house is a place anumals tend to go I think that is probably a nice cool spot, they are weather wise....
