It almost seems that 'crochet' is a lost art. Patterns, old and new would be great to discover. It seems to me that I am "Crocheting my way to Christmas" this year. Still using the same patterns people have given me over many past years. Arts, crafts, etc are wonderful and can be very personal as well as nice gifts to give on many occasions.

I crochet, and I'm teaching my daughters as well. If my boys show an interest, I'll teach them too. I love all the different stitches and patterns out there. All 4 of my children have at least 2 blankets I've made for them. My oldest two really treasure theirs and that makes me happy. I'll be making lots of things for Christmas gifts as well. What's you favorite thing to make?

Thanks so much for your response. After reading your postings it seems that we feel the same about many things. I think it's great that your daughters (& maybe your sons)could be learning to crochet. This is great & you seem to be a great Mom for being willing to teach them.

Aww, thank you! It's nice to know I'm not the only one who likes to crochet. More people seem to knit. I can knit, but it seems to take much longer to complete a project.

I crochet! In fact, two years ago, I specificaly asked my mother-in-law to teach me. My favourite thing to make is hats (because I have a really cute pattern) and I can make a bunch of them through the year with matching mittens, and at Christmas time or during the winter, I give them to charities like the Salvation Army. I've made totebags and ponchos for charity auctions and baby blankets, etc. Currently, I'm making snowflakes that you spray starch and can use as decorations. (I also have recently made some butterflies for my grandma to put around the house...she loves butterflies, and they're pretty cute too!) If anyone is into exchanging patterns, I have many!

I'd love to have the butterfly pattern. Is there any pattern your looking for?

I'd much rather give and receive a handmade gift. I'm sure people appreciate the time and thought you put into those baby blankets

i love to crochet! for me it releaves stress and i love the different stitches that can be made. i have made a few of my own patterns and i have don't quite a few blankets from books. i usually try to customize any project i do so that it is not a copy write issue. my favorite patterns are the mile-a-minute patterns and the granny square patterns. they are simple and go very fast. i did one pattern out a book one time and it too me 3 months to complete it. $30 to make but it too, but in the end i ended up giving it away to a friend. i have started many projects and haven't finished them or just took them apart for something else. it just depends on the colors and if they look good or not. thanks for your post!

I know how to crochet. My grandmother, who could do it beautifully, taught me how. I haven't done any in a long time. I have a house full of cats and hate having cat hairs woven in crocheted items. Once my cat population goes down, I intend to do so again though.

I like to crochet baby stuff because they are small and they go quick (almost instant gratification). I got a bunch of patterns off of a website. But the link is on my old computer. If I remember it I'll pass it along.
I also pick up those little pattern books for a couple bucks that they have near the yarn and most of the free patterns that the stores offer.
Right now I am working on a few items for my baby (who is 7 months) and I also need to get working on a layette set for my friend who is due to have baby #3 right before Christmas.

I love to crochet. My mom and grandmother both crocheted and my most treasured items are some doilies my gramma made. I like to crochet with thread and make Barbie doll clothes, doilies and snowflakes.

I crochet too..actually taught myself. Asked my grandmother in law to teach me, but she doesn't know how. I'm always looking for patterns! I have some cute ones for baby hats that I got off the internet.
