depending on the kind of sickness that occurs, the normal way i do is to let it pass for a day, if it is just fever, or colds. if there is pain, then pain relievers are administered. however should it persist for 3 days, it is advisable, which we usually do to bring the matter to a more professional person in the matter of health

We usually just take the usual medicines that the doctor normally prescribe if the sickness is just common and not really serious like colds, cough, fever, stomachache, etc. But if there are other serious symptoms coming out like bleeding or vomitting, frequent bowel movement or anything unusual and the illness still persist after taking the medicine then we would have to call and visit the doctor. I was reprimanded one time by my dentist when I took anti-bacterial and antibiotics when my gums swell and I just called her after how many days. She told me that improper treatment of any tooth or gum disease would affect the heart if it goes untreated. My dentist and even my baby's doctor told us never to self-medicate and that we should immediately call or go to the doctor for proper treatment even if it just seems to be a simple or common illness.
