I don't need to stay in a nice hotel or anything. I just want somewhere safe a clean, with decent food. Is there a place out there where I could live decently on a few dollars a day?

Mexico. I love going there because it's cheap. Of course getting there might be expensive for you. But there is this island, Isla de Mujeras. It's so cheap to eat and you can just hang out on the beach all day long.

I might check this out for our plans for next year. I would like for my husband and I do take a nice trip like this next year, but I know that we will have to watch expenses. Thanks.

Carol, basically anywhere is central and south america is very cheap. As long as you stay out of the 'tourist' areas like Cancun. When I was in Lima, Peru last year I had a 3 course meal (appetizer, main dish, dessert and drink) for only 10 soles. Thats about $5 USD. Can't go wrong with that!

Camping or staying in cheap beach huts are ways explore some countries. I suggest Thailand, the Philippines, Sri Lanka or Indonesia in your part of the world. Further away, Guatemala is very cheap and the countries it surrounds are slightly more expensive. I think a flight can be the most expensive part in your budget.I suggest buying Lonely Planet on a Shoestring book for either South East Asia or Central America. Then you can always pick out the cheapest place to stay. Sometimes it is economical to carry some food yourself or it might be cheap or eat out at the lower end of the market.
