We Can't Get Ahead

I just checked our mail. Oh boy! Our auto insurance is canceled! I made a payment last week, but I guess it wasn't enough to keep it in force. The kids are out of school, and constantly hungry. Our car is falling apart and we can't afford a new one, or can't even afford to do repairs on our current one. The transmission keeps slipping. I can't find a job. I did just apply this morning to a new Toyota plant that's opening in our area, but I'll be competing against a couple thousand other people. There are only 80 positions open right now, and 400 by the end of the year.
I've got $20 bucks to my name until hubby gets paid next Friday, and we are so behind on bills. It seems like we're never going to get ahead, and I feel like I'm falling into a deeper hole. Hubby and I are always fighting. When will things get better?

Hello Gadget_Kat this wont help you any but I just wanted to let you know You are so not alone. My family situation is much like yours. I am out of work and having a hard time getting a job and my hubby is the only one working. I just hope that yours has a better work ethic then mine. He knows that he is the only one making money but he still manages to miss work for no reason or comehome early from work, so his paychecks arent as high as they would be if he would just go to work all the time. We are still fortuanate enough that nothing is canceling but we are now just getting a month behind. I do wish you lots of luck with getting a job with the Toyota plant!!! I hope that I might be able to stumble across something soon too. Good Luck!!!!!!!

Yes, fortunately, my husband does have a good work ethic, and his paychecks are consistent. Good Luck to you too!

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. I can relate my husbands work slowed down drasticlly this winter and we got really behind on our bill. We're now almost caught up but it's not easy. Have you checked to see if you have a local food shelf that is what saved us this winter. I'll keep you in my prayers and hope things get better soon. Going through these hard times makes us who we are and when they are over we really enjoy the good times.

There are food banks in our area, but unfortunately, they're for people who live right across the river from us. Right across the river is Ohio, and the food banks, etc. are set up for people who live in that county over there. Nothing like that over here on our side. Thank you for your prayers!

i know where your coming from, our household is exactly to the same, i got bills coming out of my ears, its only been last month that i have been working a fair bit that i have started getting a bit infront but i still have bills flinging left right and centre, is any chance you could talk to a bank or something for a loan. or even a family friend just to tie u over to friday or to like a fortnight or so.
if you want your kids to go to school, like a public one, you can talk to the principal about not being able to afford thigns like books and clothes its a wonder what they can provide ( been there and done that for myself)
with your bills can you ring them up and ask to go on apayment plan or extension, i had to do that all on mine, so at the end of the month i put a bit to cover it over.
sorry to hear about your troubles, we are all here for u :)

Luckily, my kids do go to public school, and they do get free breakfast and lunch during the school year. That's what's making the summertime harder, since they are home. Thank you for your comment and support!

I"m so sorry to hear that. I can understand your situation completely because I am currently more or less in the same position - including the car troubles.
I do work but due to some silly decisions on hubby's part quiting his old job - that paid fine by the way - and ending up with a worse and less paying one, things have been pretty rough since January and are at their worse now.
I don't even pick up the phone any more, since I know it will be people calling for the bills that are late and I have nothing to tell them other than I can't pay right now.
I wish I could tell you that things will get better soon. Actually they probably will.
But in my case the last 10 years have been one thing after another after another. It seems that every time we finally are able to do something for us 59 more negative ones come to tip the scale into the panic zone.
I"m actually feeling quite tired of the whole situation. I used to fight and work things out but at this moment I basically feel like the little fish caught in the fishing hook. I am so tired from swimming that the fisherman will be pulling me out in no time.
I know this is probably not what you need to hear and i hap planned on writing something more cheerful but i got caught in my own thoughts and feelings.
One thing I can tell you ... no matter how bad it gets we can always take it - we might end up depressed but we can take it !
No, really, I'm sure things will be able to get better for you soon, at least that's my wish for you :)

I know that feeling, with the phone calls. There's one that keeps calling, and they'll call about 5 times a day. I don't mind what you wrote! I welcome all kinds of comments, and if you needed to vent about your own troubles, that's fine. From all the comments here, it makes me feel a bit better to know that I'm not the only one.

Sorry you are in this position, I have been in it before, and it is not fun. Maybe it is possible for one of you to pick up a side job, just to keep the food on the table and get caught up on the bills.

Thank you both, for your comments. I have been looking for any kind of job. There are so many unemployed in my area.

I'm sorry to hear that.. I know what you mean. My husband has been unemployed for several months, and I've been paying all the bills and trying to keep things together, and it's very hard. We argue all the time too, because I resent the fact that he's not trying very hard to find a job, and is basically just sponging off of me. Not only that, but he expects me, to not only work and pay the bills, but clean the house too. I'm very sick of it. I wish things would get better too.

Wow, sounds worse than what I'm going through. Do you have kids? Up until a couple years ago, I was the only one working, and my hubby stayed home with the kids. But, he did have his own lawn care/handyman business, and when I got home from work, he would go out and do his jobs. Now, he's the one working, and I'm home, but I can't find anything part-time that can work around his schedule, since he works 2nd shift. I've been trying to find stuff online that pays, but alot of it seems like scams.

Yes, I have kids, but they're grown. We had alot of rough times when they were little too. My husband has never been one to keep a job for long. Thank goodness my kids didn't take after him, and are all good workers. I have been some online businesses, I really like the Berry Tree, it has great potential. Check my profile, and check into it. When you get a chance, you might want to try it.

If you find an answer to that question, please share. It seems that every time we think we are doing okay that something comes along and knocks us down again. We "rob" from Peter to pay Paul lately. Have to pay whoever is more serious about cancelling whatever the service is that we have. I do stuff online (Mylot, Epinions, suvey sites) and that little bit of money here and there have helped out with gas and such here and there, but it's so hard to make ends meet anymore!

Your situation sounds similar to mine. I've recently signed up for some of the survey sites, and other miscellaneous sites. And I can emphasize, poor Peter has been robbed many a time from me, too!

Oh my dear, I can feel your pain. Isn't it aweful when money gets slim. You just don't know what to do. I've been trying to do a bunch of the survey sites for extra money, and I'm getting there. But I just started and will have to wait till the end of the month to get my money. What do I do in the mean time? I think we all go through these dry spells. Hopefully it will get better for you soon and you will get that job. Are the kids old enough to get summer jobs?

Boy can I relate!! It seems to get worse and worse, even though you think it can't get any worse!! I don't really have any advice, just letting you know that I can realate! We manage to pay our bills but have nothing left over for food or fun. And with my daughter out of school it sucks because at school she gets free breakfasts and lunches =) But I love spending extra time with her =) But the bills thing can really get you down!! Just have fun with your kids, even if it is just going outside and running around the yard with them!! Try to have fun with them so they don't get worried about the money situation. We take walks when it isn't too hot outside and I let the kids decide where to go, like left or right or go straight. They are 6 & 2 so that is fun for them =) Do you have any local churches that offer food pantries?? That is our saving grace sometimes because without them we wouldn't have any food for our kids!!

I do try to have some fun with the kids. Luckily, my mother-in-law just moved to this area, so, they've been going to her house on the weekends. And they're supposed to be visiting relatives in NJ for a week this month. Thank you for your comment!

A computer is often a luxury where ever you go, but in some cases it is also needed for income. Like with me, I do MyLot, survey sites and also write product reviews
online. Since I need my computer to make money, I need to have it. I make enough to cover my internet costs with some left over, so just because someone has a computer doesn't mean they have money to burn. I work online to keep my computer and internet going. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

sandwedge, I bought my computer 5 years ago, and back then, things weren't bad like they are now. And I really don't pay much for my internet, and it is needed because I am finding sites here and there where you can make a few cents. Plus, I've been trying to sell some of my items on eBay to help pay my bills. Believe me, I've been able to pay a bill or 2, and fill up our car with gasoline, with some of the few dollars that I've made on eBay.
