What do you think of Hostel2? I went to see it this week and was totally bemused by the ending...it was more comical than horrific? Have I just become blase about my horror or was it really that tongue in cheek?

I thought the whole thing was absolutely awful. They seemed to be going out of their way to be shocking rather than caring about storyline or anything else. I'd heard about the "great ending" and like you, thought it was laughable more than anything else.

Got to agree about the lack of storyline, was just no surprises in store, same old hostel, same old warehouse, blah blah...didn't know if to laugh at the end or be disappointed that I'd actually spent money on it!

I thought the ending was comical - but deserving - even though I thought the movie was awlful, I still disliked the villians immensely. I don't think you've become blase about your horror, it's just that grossness isn't really a condition of horror. It's suspense that make horror films really effective. The first Hostel, take away the grossness, and the suspense was still there - and they did a good job with it. I think when they produced the second film, they forgot about it and just concentrated on the grossness.

Sounds good. Bad news for distributing in New Zealand though:
