If you are sick, will you go to work anyway, or stay home and try to get some rest?
I guess it all depends on how bad I am feeling that will determine what I decide to do. I was feeling pretty ill earlier this week. It was one of those 2 day stomach bug things. Since I don't have a job outside of the house right now, all I had to worry about was the only income stuff I do. I did try to take it easy and rest, but I still felt compelled to get some work done. So I still did work when I was sick, but not as much as I normally would have. If I had a job outside of the home, I probably wouldn't stayed home though.

I'm a SAHM right now and am currently not feeling so good. I wish I could have taken some "time off" to rest but moms don't get sick days. Today isn't as bad as the past two days but still...
I lost a job once for needing to take time off for being sick. I was even under doctor's orders to stay home but they didn't care. So now, because of that I would have to be practically dying before I would call in sick. Unless I was 100% sure that my boss would understand. Of course it would depend on the job too. Like right now I'm dealing with a bad sinus/cold problem, between the runny nose, raspy voice, and coughing, there is no way I would work as a waitress or cashier or other jobs that would have me face to face with the public and touching things with my hands that they will then have to touch.

I know a bit what that is like. I'm a SAHS, meaning stay at home sibling. I've got a couple of sisters that are several years younger than me, since my mother works full time and I don't have a job outside the home, I stay home and take care of my sisters. There are lots of times they need me to take them some place and I really don't feel like doing it cause I'm not feeling well, but I don't have much of a choice there. At least they are both teenagers now so they don't need me as much as they did when we were all younger. Now I mostly just help them with homework if I can and I cook dinner sometimes. Also good for me to be around in case of an emergency too.

"SAHS"...I like that! Wish I had one! Well I kind of did this week only he's is 17 and didn't want to help or even pick up after himself so all it did was give me more work to do. His friend helped out a little bit so it could have been worse.
You're mom must be really proud of you. I don't even know you and I'm proud of you!

Yeah I probally will go to work if I was sick but if I had a fever then I would have no choice but to stay home I would try to tough it out for the day even though the day would take forever to be done but if worse comes to worse I can always leave home early like ive done in the past thanks to allergies even though I dont like to leave work early.

Yes going home early is always an option.
I know how big a problem allergies can be. Besides seasonal stuff I have a lot of chemical sensitives. It can make an office environment hazardous for me, I'd probably have to leave early everytime someone used air fresheners or decided to clean with any product containing bleach or ammonia just to name a couple of examples. I think this is why I'm really trying to make the online income thing work because I just don't feel like it would be healthy for me to have an office job.

I actually work at home at the moment (at least a lot of the time) and work for my own business, so I have the advantage of being able to take breaks as needed. I am very passionate about my work and it's been a lifelong dream of mine, so if it's just a cold or a flu, I'll go ahead and resume as I normally would. If it's something that is going to jeopardize the quality of my work though, I may hold back and take a break from it. It's a dance company and I am a dancer, so it all depends on what I feel my body needs more in order to be in top form.

This is a difficult one. If you are sick you really should stay home to allow yourself to get better. Also, it will stop you from making other people sick as well. At the same time, some of us have jobs that really don't allow us to be sick. We simply have to be there. This is always a difficult decision.
cheers,

yup. we are supposed to just stay in bed when sick. that's the best option there is. but with the jobs i had before, i need to go to work all the time or else i'll end up filing up too much work to go through when getting back from being sick. there really are difficult decisions to make... and that one i hate!

It depends on the condition of your body. If you think your body can on that condition then go for it, but if not never risk your health. :)

Surely not. Why? One has to be responsible and not bring trouble or inconvenience others. Say, if your colleague caught your bug and she happens to be married with children, she may bring the germs home and her whole family can get sick. Say if it is diarheoa, then you'll be running the toilet and in worst case scenario, you may just vomit out of nowhere and the cleaning lady will be in for a hard time.

It also depends for me on what it is I have- if it is the stomach bug than I stay home- It's not fun driving to work wondering if you'll make it before you have to puke or use the bathroom- Plus you should keep your germs at home-
If it is the cold- I brave it and go to work- I get colds and allergies alot- I can be miserable at work just as welll as I can be miserable at home!

I have a $50 incentive each month to show up for work each day I'm assigned to work in the month, or to find my own replacement, so, I went to work last week even though I had a migraine. I only don't go to work if I think I'm contagious or if I'm throwing up

Hi kythe freind,
If i am to take leave for being sick, then i must be at home only, and usually stomach ache, and things of that sort, i usually attend my reqular office duties.. Infact with my BP going 170/120 i usually attend my office wihtout any complaints.. Infact this i noted, i told my boss that i do have high BP, and he immediately cross checked my statement and to his, surprise he found that the reading was 170/120, and asked me how you are casually talking to me?

When I am sick it all depends on what I have to do at work. I process payroll so if it is a payroll day I will try to drag myself in and try to get it done and get home. But if it is just another day and I am sick it would depend on how sick I am. For instance if I had a fever and diariah I would stay home. But if I just had a sore throat, I may go on in. But normally I wish I would have just stayed home as when I am sick I don't get as much work done at work. I don't work at the speed I do when I am feeling good.
I hope you are feeling better by now.

If I really cannot get out of bed,I would call in sick and take medical leave. We do get paid for the day provided we have an MC (medical certs). But if it is just a normal flu or other mild symptoms, I would not get an MC as I think it reflects badly onme if I end up taking too many MCs every year.

Usually, I try to ignore my sickness because the more I acknowledge it, the worse it becomes. I usually have some paracetamol at hand but I only take it when my maximum dose of Vitamin C don't take effect.
Once on the job, I got really sick that my boss asked me to go down to our panel doctor in the same building and the doctor immediately issued a sick leave for me to leave work.
But now, I'm a stay at home mom, and also expecting a second child so I really try to stay in great health by taking my multivitamins. Because as it is with stay at home moms, you can't afford to get sick because of the children.

i will not work when am sick. see.. when we are sick, our body needs complete rest. then only we could regain our strength and could be back to work with our full efficiency.
i know it is not that easy to stay away from work all the time, but it is better if we could.

It's really hard working when you're sick because you cannot concentrate much in your work. I did experience that already when Im working at the office. I have fever at that time, and Im so dehydrated, exhausted, and sometimes I feel nauseated. Fortunately, I still was able to do my job. I went home quickly, take some medicine, and get some rest.

It depends on how I'm feeling if I can go out and work, but as much as possible I will coz It's a job and I don't have a lazy attitude when It comes to work. I'm a workaholic person, thats I why I'm too health concious I do take eat plenty of vegetables and I took vitamins c for everyday protection.

At my last job, we were given a lot of sick time, so I usually would stay home when I didn't feel well. Sometimes I would just sleep late and then go in to work in the afternoon, because sometimes a little more sleep was all I needed to get to feeling better.
With my new job, we get very little sick time, so I suspect I will be working through all but the worst illnesses. The good news is that since we've moved, my allergies have not been acting up like they used to, so I think I have a much better chance to stay healthy here! :)

I can not afford to miss even an hour of work and so I don't and have not in at least 12 years. When I don't feel well, I get up and shower and dress anyway. Most of the time that alone makes me feel alot better. Thankfully, I don't get sick often...never really.
A couple of months ago, I did get hit with a very bad stomach bug. Since I work second shift, I was able to go back to bed once I got my daughter to school. I went into work and informed my boss that I may have to go home early. Somehow I made it thru the night. It is not good, i don't think to stay home and nurse every tiny ailment. Where I work if someone calls in sick, someone has to replace them on their shift. It is quite irritating to get called in because someone is having their period or has the sniffles or oh lord forbid...bad hairday. It is extra money for me and i try to look at it that way but still...give me a break!
