I just read this article about Spice, a calico cat who was with its owners while in a trip to Hawaii. Somehow in the scurry of packing they lost site of the cat...couldn't find it anywhere. Unknowingly though the cat had crept in a large packing crate that was to be shipped and was sealed in the crate---The cat's journey in this crate took three weeks!! When the owners opened up the crate upon it's arrival, they couldn't believe it...there was the cat! Spice had survived three weeks contained in this crate for three weeks without any food or water...other than dehydrated and of course starved for food, Spice is doing fine Read more about this story here: http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/O/OCEAN_CROSSING_CAT?SITE=UTSAC&SECTION=STRANGE&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT

That is so cool. I love these kind of stories. It's always a miracle and a sweet story. Thanks for sharing it with us. Spice is a cute name for a cat as well. I guess Spice wanted to go to Hawaii too huh? LOL Smart cat!

I am so glad that this story had a happy ending! That is an awfully long time to be without food and water, plus to be locked in a dark packing crate. I am glad that Spice made it and is ok.

That is amazing. That poor kitty. I am glad that they got him back. I don't think he would have lasted much longer. They got lucky.

What an amazing story. I can hardly believe it. The poor little thing, fancy surviving that long with nothing to eat or drink. I'll bet he's even more precious to his family now. Thanks for that Pye.

I heard there was also another story like this but the cat was in a box shipped to China. Both cats were OK. Oh my, what is it with cats and boxes? they keep crawling in boxes, what if animal abusers use this to catch and hurt them? I'm glad these 2 cats are OK, I hope they don't tell other cats their stories and the rest will try it out!

Good thing cats don't tell each other things like this...or have access to the internet...LOL they'd be e-mailing each other

I was wondering if you would post a discussion on this story. I replied to the news article. Quite a story, isn't it? I wonder who was happier to be reunited, the family or the cat? I'm so glad he lived.

Man I feel bad for that poor cat, hope he didn't use up all his nine lives in that crate. I am glad he survived though, hopefully he will be all right after that little misadventure.

The cats are really resilient, I had unknowingly locked a cat that used to come to my office, in a cupboard before the weekend. When I went to my office on monday I heard her knocking, and let her out - she was so hungry that I had to feed her with a whole bottle of milk, since then she regularly comes to my office at lunch time.

Wow - Spice was very lucky. It is amazing how many stories you see about cats surviving such amazing ordeals. They really are the most intelligent and incredible creatures! Of course they also really are the most curious creatures - if they were less nosey they probably wouldn't get into such escapades in the first place!

I just logged on to the site for detailed information on the calico. Though true, it's just unbelievable. My indigenous cat makes disappearances quite often ,but is back to my place sometime later . I could not find reasons for such vanishings and reappearances . CATS ! They are quite strangely behaved .

Wow. And I think it is bad when I lock one of the cats in the studio and forget them in there for a whole day. I am glad Spice survived.

Makes me wonder how much weight he lost and how much he weighed to being with. Three weeks is a long time to fast.
