*I associated halloweens before with vampires, snakes, fires in hell, demons and other scary stuff i could think of as a kid. That i thought when this day of the year comes, all of those creatures will visit the earth and attack us humans. LOL! TV programs here and there are all but scary stuff too. But now, i realized that those things are all but pure imagination of mine and since dako naman ko ( i'm a grown up already), i've come to appreciate halloweens better. Though to be honest, i'm still scared to hear ghost stories yah know. I can't help it! Anyways, i celebrate halloween nowadays with fun. I get the chance to attend trick or treat parties in our office.( In the Philippines, especially in our place, we do not celebrate the 'trick or treat' thing. Not unless if you live in a subdivision where majority of your neighbors agreed to come up with that kind of activity or event. ) I would be bringing along with me my nephew who is really enjoying his candies and balloon searching there, (not to mention that i am enjoying it too. hehe^_*) As well as the foods and preparations in store for us. But, we never forget to visit our departed loved ones of course. We light candles and say our prayers there the day before November 1 to avoid traffic jams. Also, it has been a tradition in the family to prepare something for the dead if they'll be visiting us. (yes of course they'll be visiting us! Why not?.) My mama will cook the so called lutong pinoy 'biko' and 'binignit' in our house. She will also include boiled eggs to offer it in the altar. .Though it's not that 'bongga'(festive) our preparation may have been, we never fail to remember our beloved who were once with us. Not scary at all right?.!

You're an Ilonggo too my dear..lol..pareho kita (we are the same)..sa diin ka sobung? (where are you now?)..anyways.. We in the Philippines are very well organized of this once a year bongga (festive) event. You can see people every where doing there obligations like as what you've mentioned. We can't deny our tradition of remembering our loved ones and the things we do every November 1. I also realized this when I was old enough to understand it..lol..when I was little child I thought ghost will come over too and invade our place..lol..but came to realized it was only a story..pass from generation to generation. What the beauty is..gakilitaay ang mga pamilya kg mga abyan sa patyo.. (seeing families and friends in the cemety) like a reunion. And pray together for our loved ones who passed away. :)

Oh I'm sorry friend but I am not an ilongga. I'm from Cagayan de Oro - the city of golden friendship and that makes me a cebuana. Filipinos are like that really. Tnx for sharing friend. ;)

We are really preparing things during this tme, its when peoplegather together to visit loved ones and in the office people get busy preparing goodies for the kids. I love this time of year coz its like christmas in november, I love the noise and the busy excited kids roaming around asking for some treats.

When you say altar with the boiled eggs, do you mean like an altar house that is on a stand? I saw one of those in a catalog and want to buy it for my future asian-themed bedroom. Maybe one for my meditation room too.

Yes friend. It usually has a stand. Some even put at the top of their cabinets if there's space. ( we make it exclusive for the saints statue )
