As most of you know my parents both have Alzheimer's now, I came across this poem I wrote for Mam years ago, I hope you like it xx
My Mum
Dear Mum when you're feeling down and your blue
Just think where I'd be if I didn't have you
I'm sure that you sometimes feel like climbing the wall
Like when I bust up my bike when we stayed in Millhall
Or like when I thought I would paint a big pram
I thought you would kill me but no here I am
When I was in trouble for Mum I would shout
And you'd always be there to bale me right out
I don't often say it but (think) it I do
Oh! Mam Donald I really love you
You worry about everyone that's just your way
That would be allowed if your health didn't pay
You bake and you fuss and you do all you can
And you get a good help from A REALLY NICE MAN
As I sit here and think of the years where they've gone
And I think of the love from your eyes it has shone
I've three boys who think that their Gran is the best
And a Granddaughter who even called her doll Jess
I sit and give thanks to the heavens above
Who sent someone like you here for us all to love

That is just beautiful! I wish I could pen something like that for my mother. I am sorry that your parents have fallen prey to the thief. That is what I call alzheimers. It steals your memories and thoughts and so much more. Thanks so much for sharing that special memory with us.

It is sad and I wish there was something that could be done to stop it or cure it. It is a fearful disease and I am sorry that your parents have fallen prey to it. But you have their memories and that is something special within itself. Take care!

That was a lovely poem dedicated to your mum, mums are special to each and every one of us, we have a special bond and they are part of us, and it is easy to take them for granted. Thank you for sharing my dear friend xxx

Nothing is as beautiful and precious as this gesture of our children.I would say,you and your mum, both are tremendously lucky to have each other.xxxx

A beautiful poem, wee. The words are profound and touching.
As far as I can see from what your wrote here you seem to have so much in common with your mother. So many things you write about her sound like a description of yourself.
I know you must suffer a lot from seeing her suffer, but I´m sure she remembers some wonderful moments she has had with her family.
Bless you and your family, wee.

That's a beautiful posem. I am so sorry your parents have this terrible disease. It's hard watching your parents get old and lose their health and vitality, isn't it? I have a mother who is going through some health problems now and it can be tough sometimes.

So beautiful....I love it. And am sorry to hear the state of your parents.
Here is a beautiful story passed on to me that I would like to share to you. If you have an aging parent, or to anybody with a parent...then this story is for you. The title of the story is "A special date - When was the last time you said 'I love you'? http://blessingsforlife.blogspot.com
Note: Sorry I cannot post it here because its is quite long and am not yet allowed to copy and paste.

Thanks weemam for sharing your poem with us. It is a very meaningful poem. You certainly have a very natural gift for writing that we can all learn to acquire. I hope what you share here will inspire more people to write and share their poems here at myLot.

Oh weeman, your poem is so beautiful; I can see how much you love your mam, and she must have been very proud to get it from you.
You have inspired me to try and write one for my own mam who is in a nursing home in the UK following a bad stroke. Perhaps I should run it by you when I get it done!
