We are having a big family barbecue at my house next weekend. I would love to have corn on the cob. I've only cooked it in a pot of water on the stove. I've never tried to cook it on the grill. I've heard that it comes out really good on the grill and would like to give it a try. Have you ever cooked your corn that way? If so, do you have any helpful tips?

I always cook my corn on the grill. There are two ways to do it. I can never get the first way to work out, so I always resort to the next.
Peel the husks back from the corn, but don't take them all the way off. Add some butter, salt, pepper, then put the husks back over the ear of corn. They say sometimes you have to tie a string around the husks to get them to stay, at this point. I wouldn't know, as I can never get this to work. Grill for about 30 minutes turning often.
The second way is to clean all the husks off and wrap the corn in aluminum foil, with the butter, salt, pepper. Then you grill it for 30 minutes, and yummmm yummm. This is the way I do it and it turns out wonderful.
Also, you'll want your grill set to low, so it doesn't burn the corn.

I've done both of those methods several times. The one I decide to do depends on my mood. If you do the first method, make sure you remove the silk. All you want around the corn are the thick green leaves. This is also a typical method for cooking corn on the cob when you're camping. Also, if you do the first method, I'd suggest skipping the butter until after it's cooked. The butter can leak down into the coals and cause them to flare up.
Corn cooked on the grill tastes SO good. Good luck with it.

Personally, I never like the way it comes out on the grill. I think it makes the kernals very tough and chewy and not at all easy to eat.
Now I make it on the stove. I put them in a big pot of water and bring the water to a boil for approximately five minutes. Then I dump all but about an inch of water out of the pot and put it on the stove, with no flame. I cover the pot with a lid and let them steam the rest of the way for about fifteen minutes or so depending on how many ears I have in the pot.
The result is tender, sweet corn that is cooked to perfection. My friend's mother gave me that recipe, may she rest in peace.

I have cooked it a couple ways on the grill. The first is to peel the husk back but not remove it and steam it in a large pot - like the kind you use for soup stock or lobster. This is to cook it about 50%. Once you steam it pull the husk back over the cob and put it on the grill. You can add butter to it before you but it on the grill if you want.
The second way is to peel back the husk, apply butter to the cob, pull the husk back over it and grill it with the lid on rotating the cobs every two minutes. This locks in a lot of moisture so be careful when you peel them.
My trick is to melt the butter and add a little garlic salt to it. Just use a pastry brush to apply it. If you want a really strong garlic taste, apply the butter and garlic mix and let the cob sit for a couple hours with the husk peeled back over them.
Good luck!

I've never actually done this but I know you can wrap it in foil with some butter and spices on it. I'm not sure though how long it actually takes to make.

Yes- I have and on an open fire (camping)-- You just leave the corn in the husks- and soak it good in water for like an hour-- then throw it on the grill or open fire pit-- Takes alot of room on the grill that is why we use the fire pit- Be sure to turn it often or it will burn (if you use fire pit). For some reason the corn tastes much better grilled this way- I love corn on the cob-- I like it steamed too-
Enjoy it!

I love corn on the cob!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Every summer is one of out favorites coming hot and steamy from the grill.
There are many ways to do it, but we usually get some foil and place the corn in the center together with salt, peppers and a bit of butter. Then we rolled and put it in the barbecue. It always comes out delicious :)
WE do it like that when we go camping to, except that we place it in the fire instead of the bbq. WE make sure we don't place it on the flames but underneath.

I've seen it wrapped in foil & cooked on the grill. I don't know if you do anything like add butter, I've never even touched them.
I guess you could say that my corn allergy has become phobic in nature. I even have trouble touching pictures of corn at first glance.

yes i love them, every single way and have tried them most ways, boiled then i wrap in foil put a little butter in the foil and oven bake with a few chilli flakes, or boil them 1st then finish them on the BBQ, this is my favourite.
i have not tried to grill them yet!! but the 1st 2 idea are my personal favourites.
I hope you family BBQ goes well,

Put it on the BBQ, with the husk still on it. Preferably a charcoal grill works best. I can't help you if you have a propane grill as there is no help for you ;~P, but if you are enlightened enought to have a charcoal grill put it away from the briquets in the warm cooking zone of your grill. Let it cook until the husk is slightly blackened. Don't worry this won't burn the kernels themselves, this just give them a nice golden texture.

the most useful tip I can think of is turn the corn over often. I have cooked it a few times on the grill and it does taste alot better than cooking it in water. Also my other favorite thing to cook on the grill is to take really hot onions peel them stick them in tinfoil with butter and garlics salt. You wont believe it but after they are cooked they are as sweet as an apple very good trust me.

I wrap it in foil with an ice cube and put it on the grill and grill it as long as the meat and it turnes out just great. Infact I do most of my veggies like that. When grilling I have been cooking my meals outside because it is to hot to cook indoors to heat up the house.
