I started reading Agatha Christie many years ago, and love the many characters she invented. My favorite character of all is Hercule Poirot. I had pictured how I thought he would look before I ever saw a movie based on one of the books. I have seen him portrayed by several actors but my favorite is the little Frenchman(whose name escapes me now). Who is your favorite Christie character? And why?

Hi there mummymo. Yes, I think Poirot is wonderful-her most engaging character. I also learned the name of the actor who played my favorite Poirot. His name is David Suchet. He is the perfect Poirot. Just as I would imagine him to be. PBS carried the series for awhile, but then they moved on to something else. I am thinking about purchasing a few of them.

That's so wonderful, mummymo. I agree that nobody portrays the character better than Suchet. I have seen him in a few other movies and he is a very fine actor.

You have a treat in store for you JeaimeZZ. I kept all of the Agatha Christie books for many years, but had to finally get rid of them due to moving and downsizing. I almost cry when I have to part with my favorite books.

Yeah, my favourite character is Hercule Poirot, too. My favourite book of hers, though, is And Then There Were None, which doesn't have Hercule Poirot in it.

I haven't read Agatha Christie in such a long time, but when I did I must have devoured every book by her--sought of a graduation....I had grown out of the Nancy Drews and went directly to Christie (also Dorothy Sayers, Nero Wolfe, etc)--while I liked Poirot I think I always preferred Mrs. Marple...she came across often as a dotty old woman but she had a wonderful calculating mind to solve myseries

You and I have a lot in common, pyewacket. I read all of those books also. I couldn't get enough of Nero wolfe, and I was quite ecstatic when they brought out the tv series. It was a huge hit. I'm a mystery fan from way back and still enjoy reading them today.

I think Poirot is indeed a great character. He is so smart and annoying in a good way. He is different from Holmes who uses mainly physical clues.

My favorite is Poirot as well but next to him is my dear Watson, Arthur Hastings!!! His simplicity and common-man thinking brings out the best in Poirot's little grey cells.

I started reading Agatha Christie many years ago when I was in high school and my favorite character has always been Miss Marple. I love the fact that everyone underestimates her and writes her off because she is just seen as a dotty old woman. I find as I am getting older that I find myself drawing conclusions about people based on their similarity to other people I have known in the past much the way Miss Marple does. However, Hercule Poirot with his little gray cells has always been a close second for me. I also love the way David Suchet portrays him on TV.
