Elfen Lied is one of the manga's and anime I will not recommend to young children,a nd something I don't want to watch again! It's horrific and I cried alot through it. The story line, I admit, is good, and so are the characters.
It's all about a diclonous named Lucy, who is around 18 years old, and hates the human kind except for some people, especially Kohta, her childhood crush and the love of her life. Lucy hates humans because she was treated badly as a child and bullied by some kids who were her first victims, as they killed a puppy whom she loved dearly, and a girl betrayed her trust. But, she has a split personality named Nyu, because that's all she could say at first. She is quite opposite to Lucy,a dn is kind and a little dumb. She learns a few words from her friends, and is close to Kohta, who Lucy refuses to kill, and she won't kill in front of him after what happened in her past.
When Lucy was younger, she had a puppy which her bullies murdered, (that amde me cry) and she had to watch it, becoming angry, she killed everyone in the room and ran out to bury her puppy, crying (I think), and as she visited his grave at one point, she met a child, Kohta, who suddenly befriended her despite her being a Diclonus. But Lucy didn't want him to leave her, but he had a sister named Kanae, who was jealous of any other girl who was near or close to him, and Lucy, as a child, ended up murdering both Kohta's sister and his father, leaving him alive, because she felt she loved him. She ran away and didn't see him for a long time after that, until she was Nyu.
Nyu is wanted to be killed, because she is very dangerous. In the end, she dies through it, but before hand she tells Kohta she's sorry that she killed his sister and that she loves him, she kisses him before leaving, crying, and then dies. Kohta is sad and doesn't want her to die, but Lucy is too dangerous to live, so, she dies, and her horns are taken off, making her turn into Nyu. Wether she's alive or not is a mystery, as in the anime, on the last episode, it leaves a cliff hanger as Nana, or Number 7, a kind, sweet diclonous, feels the presence of another of her kidn, adn thinks automatically that Nyu/Lucy is alive, and goes outside, and you see a shadow, but it just ends.
This contains suspense, crying, love and alot of emotion! I cried and couldn't sleep on account of this anime, but if you like this sort of thing, watch or read it, but I'm not returning to this anime again!

I thought that Elfen Lied was absolutely amazing,
Slightly hard to keep up with the story line and subtitles at times,
And of course extremely graphic (and as such, not for the weak of stomach),
but I couldn't tear myself away.
My boyfriend and I downloaded and watched all 13 episodes in one go.
Do you know if there is a sequel?
I'm sure there won't be, because the suspense and unsatisfactory ending is just what they want, but I'd love to watch more.

One of the interesting animes that had gore yet kept the animation simple.
The cast of characters seems all orphaned in some way and all shared such a past that doesn't seem right to experience at such a young age.
After watching the anime episodes, I really think that the one who came back is Lucy since I can't think of any character that would come back. I really want to read the manga to see the differences. ^_^

I watched Elfen lied a whila ago. I thought it was pretty good, but I didn't love it. I did like the message of the cruelties of humanity, though.
