Personally for me, Sprint Cup does not sound right at all. I liked when they called it Winston Cup, and have enjoyed NEXTEL cup, but Sprint cup to me just does not sound right. But I guess it NEXTEL is now Sprint they might have no choice?

This happens all the time for sports stadiums and bowl games. Sponsors change, companies get bought out, the fans will remain the same. I've seen it happen a lot over the years and all goes on as normal. It is the way of the world these days.

I was just getting used to calling it the Nextel Cup! The name changes is understandable. NASCAR had in the contract that Nextel could change the name once in the ten years of the contract, so this is it.
I think a better idea would be to call it "The NASCAR Cup sponsored by Sprint." Then they could change the "sponsored by" whenever they needed to. I think fans would like it. They do that for the Daytona 500. It's the only race that has never had a sponsor name in front of the race distance, i.e. Subway 500, Poulan 300, etc. It's always been the Daytona 500, even if it's the "Daytona 500 presented by STP".
