Funny cat story. I have 1 really long haired cat, Rio. She is an absolute Diva! She thinks you need to move when she’s some place. Her favorite place to lay is on top of the small refrigerator that I keep soft drinks in, or on the cabinet next to it. This day she was eating on the other side of the fridge when I grabbed a drink out it. I didn’t notice that she had swayed her tail into the fridge until after I shut it!Suddenly I have a long haired cat, running in place because her tail fur is stuck in the fridge door! I opened it & let her go. She actually avoided the fridge for several days until she was sure she wasn’t going to get her tail trapped again. But the silly goose still sleeps on top & gets her tail in the edge & caught sometimes.

I'm sorry, but I am laughing at your discussion! You did such a good job of describing the situation I can just picture it! Poor cat. I hope it didn't hurt her. Cats will lay in the most inconvenient places, won't they? I swear mine can read. I have the newspaper spread out all over the table and they will always lay in the exact spot I am reading! Cats...you gotta love 'em!

I'm not only laughing at ElicBxn's story here but yours...My cat Pyewacket doesn't like me to read either...I'm all set to read my book in bed and he has to lay on top of my book--hehe--I think our cats get jealous if we dare pay any attention to other than their royal majesties--LOL

I always thought it was a silly coincidence that all the cats I've ever had have always decided to lie on whatever I'm trying to read, wherever I'm trying to read it! And if I decide to just sit and hold a book or magazine my one cat, Squirt (who weight about 30 pounds!) gets right by me and insists on being petted. He'll grab my hand with his paws and rub against me and my book until HE gets my undivided attention! Cats are such fascinating creatures...I just LOVE them!

Oh how funny- I mean not for the cat- I can just imagine- Poor kitty- I bet she won’t think she owns the place anymore- the ruler of the roost- My cat Gracie is the same- She thinks she is the queen and we are her servants- Pet me—Play with me--- Leave me alone—All on her terms. I bet your cat was mad at you for a bit!

Well, while Rio isn't one of those flat faced Persians, her usueral expression is "glare." And that was BEFORE I caught her tail in the door!

But as the Diva she is she expects you to not get it caught in the refrigerator door. Both of my cats are like that, my big boy (who is my aviatar) likes deli turkey, and I buy it for him often, when he knows I am going to give him some he follows me to the fridge and wags his tail around my leg and yes it stands tall inside the refrigerator, a few times I have grabbed the turkey and not looked and shut his tail in the door, such as you have done, he gives me a mean look but always comes back for his turkey. The funny thing is he will do it the very next day, as though he forgot I got him previously. Nowadays, I try to let him move his tail on his own accord or tell him to move it for me. Such children!

One of my big fridges is a side by side and has those thick doors. I've had cats sitting on top ride the door open. They are NOT amused! I've never had one ride it back yet!

Please apologize to Miss Rio for me, but I laughed so hard I ended up in tears! You'd think she'd learn to tuck her tail up when the door was open. That is too funny.

I know what you mean, but the next time I opened the fridge, all she did was glare at me - tail didn't move. But since I've now caught it a few times, if she feels endangered, she'll get up anyway.

Ahh poor thing! glad to hear she wasn't hurt, just her pride suffering. I have had the same problem with my Max, although not with his tail, he has a habit of sitting in the open doorway of the fridge, normally when I loading the groceries, and one day I tried to shut the door, without looking, only to find it wouldn't shut so of course I pushed harder and heard a yowl as Max was almost shut in the fridge. He hasn't learnt though and will still sit in the doorway:)

My first cat did something like that. You'd open the fridge & she'd run to see in. One time the former roomie said, Lets just shut her in & maybe she'll learn. Oh she learned all righ, she learned just where the baloney was!

Cats are silly like that. They do not seem to learn any lessons. I have 2 cats and one of them, Barnes, is like that. She thinks she is a diva but once in a while when I open our refrigerator door she sneaks part way in without me knowing it. I close the door and she moves to get out of the way but once in a while her tail gets caught and she lets out a loud meow.

Sounds like my moose. His majesty as my dad calls him. He always lays on top of the refrigerator and I don't know how many times he has gotten his paw or tail almost or actually caught in the freezer door as it was being shut.he never learns though, lol

Like susieq...I'm laughing...I don't have a problem so much as one of my cats' tails getting caught in the refrigerator, but the closet. They do the same thing....I might not be paying full attention --heaven forbid me...and don't realize that while one of my cats is standing next to me near the closet and I close the door, and of course their tail gets caught---oh what a nasty look I get...I have to talk for about an hour apologizing to the cat--all is well when I give an extra treat to show how sorry I am

I'm pretty careful with solid doors, but most of my cats are short haired & I'd not be catching HAIR if I shut the door on a tail! But for Rio, I just let her get over her huff without treats, I keep hoping she'll learn about doors, hasn't happened....

Silly Diva will she not learn to keep her tail up. My two are always doing something cute. I was resting on the couch yesterday and laying on my side. My Sammie, my avatar picute, she curled up beside me and my little papillion dog curled at my feet and we all fell asleep untile our friend was at the door knocking. I usually am waiting and go out and meet her and she does not have to get out of her car. She cought us all napping.
