Getting excited!

A friend of ours called today saying that she had a friend that needed a home for his dog. She knew that I was looking for a short-haired breed (due to allergies) and when her friend asked for help in finding his dog a home she called us. He is bringing her by tomorrow. I'm really excited to meet her and hoping she makes a good addition to our family.
Our oldest son isn't interested in animals (he is Autistic and has sensory issues, so he doesn't like the feel of their hair) but our other son is 14 months old and animals fascinate him. My mom's cats had him giggling just because they watched him and swished their tails. The neighbor's dog barks when we go outside, jumps and wags his tail for attention, and he gets our son giggling, too. He hadn't been around animals, really, except for those couple of times. The dog we're getting, Baby Girl, is supposed to be excellent with kids. I can't wait until she gets here! I've had pets all of my life and I really miss having a pet to cuddle with! My doves and fish just aren't the same. lol

Congratulations on your new addition!
My neighbour's son is autistic so they got him a little lab mix last year to see if having an animal around would bring him out of his shell.. he's become completely outgoing and a lot more confident since the dog was brought home. I think having the dog around has really instilled a lot of confidence in him, he likes to show everyone he sees 'my Lady' and he was such a reserved child before. I think he really had issues talking to people he didn't know well before because he got frustrated when things weren't coming out the way he wanted them to and would just resort to becoming frustrated or becoming silent, and Lady has now become his security blanket.

Thanks! We're hoping that Zack bonds with Baby Girl. He really came out of his shell this past year due to having an excellent teacher. He is much more loving and confident. He still has trouble making known what he wants (he is non-verbal) but he is doing better with sign language and such since working with her. I am hoping he has her again next year. It's amazing what difference one good teacher can do!

Congratulations!! I can just imagine how excited that you all must be. I know I always am when I get a new cat or dog to add to the family. You are right though, no matter how many other types of pet we have nothing replaces the feeling of cuddling with a dog or puppy. I hope everything works out for you and congratulations again. :-)

Thanks. She seems to be settling in just fine. She was whinning a little bit when the guy that gave her to use left, but she seems a little better now. She is sleeping on her pillow next to my desk, almost as if she's always been here. Since I am a stay at home mom, I'll have plenty of time to give her, so hoping it won't take her long to feel like part of the family. She is very loveable, so I am sure she'll fit in in no time!
