It all depends on what I an in the mood for If it is chocolate I mix up the wacky chocolate cake from scratch, being as it is almost like a mix, (all prepared and baked in the same pan) or my favorite coconut loaf, as I haven't come across a cake mix that dose justice to coconut. but for most of the time I agree using mixes are best they are economical, easy to make, goof proof, unless you forget the egg or something, and very tasty. I remember many years ago some one was visiting the white house and could smell chocolate cake, and asked if it was a family recipe , yes said the first lady it has been in the Duncan Hines family for years

Lol,Which first lady was that? That's funny! I love chocolate cake, chocolate anything for that matter.I despise cocconut, always have never had a taste for it.Mixes are more economical and easier to use.But ,it tastes good, just the same.My favorite cake is carrot cake thou.

I believe it was Mrs Carter but wouldn't swear to it.Yes i agree about carrot cake the one I used to make made 4 huge cakes 13x15 inch pans, but that was handy as it was for my coffee shop and of course cream cheese icing, The other thing I was well known for was my cinnamon rolls, and believe it or not I used a white bread mix. it made the perfect amount of cinnamon rolls and it only took 90 minutes to make them, so we had fresh at least twice a day. It was funny as the mix cost $3.90 and it made 30 Cinnamon rolls that I sold for a dollar each and they were big rolls. but they were very popular. I do miss cooking very much, but not the extra calories I ate. lol

I to use a box and add fruit or something to it since my kids don't like iceing. I think it is so much easier and they taste very good.

Your kid's don't like icing? Whrn I was a kid I ate more of the iced part, then the cake.My daughter does the same thing. My oldest son will be twenty-seven next week and he still does not like cake or ice cream.Do your kids like whipped cream?Sometimes I will use that as a topping too.

They like whipped cream some but, they perfer the fruit on cake instead. Sad to say I lave iceing on my cake but don't bother with it since no one else does. My kids are like my hubby, their not big on sweets.

Sometimes I will make a cake from scratch if it is a simple recipe. But I norally make my cakes from a box also, they are just as good and so much faster, cheaper, and much easier to clean up after. I am one for the simpliest things in life..

I prefer to make my own from scratch but I'm not a complete snob about it and I'll use a box when I'm running short on time. The box mixes are actually pretty good and most people can't taste a difference between them and cakes made from scratch. I just enjoy making them. I made some cupcakes tonight and used a boxed mix because I was in such a hurry. I did, however, make my own cream cheese frosting. That's one thing I won't buy premade.

You mentioned being in a hurry and having to make cupcakes reminds me of that commercial, where the boy comes home and tells his mom he needs sixty cucake's for school by tommorow.Yeah right.I'd be on the phone calling stores to see who has some cupcakes.Lol.

Heck, when I was younger I thought that "from scratch" and "from the box" were the same thing! To me, "from scratch" meant you baked it as opposed to buying a pre-made one from the store. Needless to say, I'm still not much of a cook ;-). I use the box mixes for cakes. i do, however, usually make my cookies from scratch.

Lol,good prusumption for a child.I guess your mom didn't bake much.Usually I make my cookies from that roll in the refigerater section.Sometimes I bake them from scratch.Depending if I have the ingredients. My daughter loves those peanuts but cookies that's mix in a bag and you add oil and eggs. She bakes those.

I make mine from a box. Not really picky about the brand as long as its a name brand mix. Then spice it up with homemade icing and decorations.

I'm terrible when it comes to baking and cooking fullstop. I use the ready made mixes and add oil, eggs and water. LOL

Depends on what kind of cake I am making LOL There are a few I do only from scratch (like Red Velvet or Cheesecake) but others I use a boxed mix. If I have to use a boxed mix, I usually get whatever is on sale or the store brand.

Hello dfollin! I could never bake cake from scratch, I always buy the box…lol.. I have tried on two separate occasions to bake from scratch, needless to say they didn’t work out! I ended up converting the cake I intended to bake into brownies because they were flan at crispy….lol.. Like you, I also share a talent for baking out of a Duncan Hines box…lol

here in our place, baking is not really a part of everyday cooking, so its a hobby of mine, i bake a lot during vacations when my nieces and nephews are here, i bake from scratch,i have 2 recipe book, and i try to follow each recipe, sometimes i modify it, depends on what's in my pantry.

Here it is not an everyday thing here for most people.Unless you work at a bakery or have the time, money and need to do it.Most people also modify recipes.

I always make my cakes from scratch. That way I know exactly what's in them, and I can vary the recipe easier. I haven't tried cake mix before, but maybe I will someday just to know the difference.

I always make cakes from a box because they are so easy and so quick. Why not? And I get them really cheap at walmart. Thats what I use to Duncan Hines.

I'd say I do a bit of both. My mom has given me recipes for some awesome cakes that are made from scratch. They aren't hard to make and taste so good. But I like making box brands as well. Usually when I buy a box brand I buy Betty Crocker. But Duncan Hines is really good too!

Hi there. When my daughter and I are baking cakes, I usually give her a recipe straight off the top of my head, from scratch... We dont use box recipes and when we are baking cakes, we make triple mixtures, so we can send some to family as well...

Yes i like to use ready cake mix and i think it's much more easy and less work.I like to use Duncan Hines brand too ,for me this brand has more moisture tastier then other brand which i had tried before.
