Do you like going to Walmart? Personally, I'm tired of Walmart. Yes, they have the best prices, but as for service I think they are lacking. We have a Walmart here in town, and most evenings you are lucky if they have 3 or 4 checkouts open. You stand in line waiting forever (sometimes up to 30 min.) to checkout. They have put the other stores out of business, so they know unless you want to go to the next town, you pretty much have to shop there. We have had some bad experiences at ours this past year.

I don't like what walmart does to area businesses. They come to town and woo everyone in with their low prices and put all the little people out of business. Once they accomplish their mission, you notice their prices begin to go up and up. By this time, you have very little option but to go to Walmart.
I do shop there on rare occassions. I try to give the local people my business.

Hi Gypsylady, My wife works for walmart and I have to say that they treat there employees like dirt. They move their store into an area, put everyone else out of business selling their cheap chinese cr*p. Have you ever noticed that the things you buy at walmart dont last as long as they should-its all cheap junk. I get a 10 percent discount at walmart and I dont shop there. I dont want to waste my money on there junk anymore. Thay treat their employees like dirt, they treat their customers like dirt, they even treat their supplyers like dirt and worst of all, when you shop at walmart, you send American dollars to china-America's biggest foe. Just my two cents. Take care, Terry

Sounded like you needed to vent! I've also heard that they do not treat their employees the best. I wonder if that is at the store level management or above.

I hate Wal-Mart. Ok maybe not all wal-marts but the biggest majority of them. The one we have closest to us (there are tons of them here in Jax)is under a remodel so it is a freaking mess. They were stripping the floors the other night with a high powered stripper and I guess my mom accidently walked through some it because when we got out to the car her shoes desentigrated no kidding they fell apart. Plus this same store has 2 working motorized buggies for handicapped and elderly to use....2 and they are falling apart! The publix here has 13 brand new motorized carts. I used to work for wal-mart in AR and believe me they don't care. ALthough the last time I worked for them was by far the most pleasant. I was a deli lead at a wal-mart neighborhood market. It was stressful to the max though.

I hate Walmart, but like you said, they put the others stores out of business so what choice do we have?
The employees are rude, incompetent and have no clue about the products they are selling.
I just bought a DVD player there, got home and discovered it needed a special adaptor to fit on my TV. Went back to Walmart and asked the lady at the electronics counter for help. She had no clue and sent me to the other lady at the far side of the department. She listened to my question and waved her hand (encompassing the entire department) and said they were "over there." I left without getting the piece I need. The player will get returned tomorrow.
One marketing strategy is to keep the customer in line a long time and place lots of impulse buy items on the shelves near the registers. The idea is that while you are waiting you load up your cart with stuff you really don't need. This has backfired with me.
When I get tired of standing in line, I start taking things out of my basket. One item each 30 seconds or so. If I empty the cart before I get to the register, I leave. If not, they still lose the profit on everything I put back and they have to pay someone to return it to stock.
I think it is time we consumers stand up to Walmart and tell them to shape up or lose our business.

I knew about the keeping you in line so you will buy more. But I never thought about putting something back for every 30 seconds or so. I'll have to remember that one!

I like Walmart but it doesn't mean that I am a fan of Walmart. In my opinion, you can get almost anything there. Walmart now has a supermarket. But they don't have vegetables or fruits, etc. If those of things were available, I would have visited it more frequently. As you said, their prices are the best. But you're right, I don't like standing in line for checkout. We often have to wait almost 20 minutes for checkout. Well, it is just compromise to have the best price... LOL.

Well I prefer Wal-Mart to the other stores in the area and we have plenty to choose from. Wal-Mart though is cheaper and has a better selection. They also have better help, although that isn't saying much. The other stores just have worse help and worse attitudes. We have several Super Wal-Marts in the area and I haven't seen any stores leave/close down because of them directly. Now a few K-Marts closed but they were stores that never had customers before Wal-Mart went in, never understood how they stayed open at that time so it made sense they closed a couple of those.

I go to Walmart because its the cheapest place and the easist one right now. I live in a county where we have more than 50+ mile radius and NO super/dept store of ANY sort and the only big grocery store is a Food Lion. So we have to drive to the next county to the Walmart or go across the state line to another Walmart. So my choices are fairly limited. I used to do everything at Walmart--groceries, clothes, you name it. Now more often than not, I will try to get things other places if I know I am going to a big city. I know that before long there will be a Target built about 30 miles from us and I intend to go there as that is a town that has a Food Lion, Martins/Giant, Kmart (one that didn't shut down) and Big Lots plus the Dollar General and Family Dollar stores so it will give me a choice. Walmart's used to have such good customer service but over the years it has really declined. My best friend worked for Walmart for several years total and finally left about 2 months ago. Her reasoning--she was a cashier and she was being forced (as well as others because it was a new company policy) to SHARE her cash drawer with the next cashier that took her place. If the drawer came up short, the responsibility of it fell on whomever was on the drawer that day. I have worked as a cashier before and I ALWAYS had my own drawer and it was cashed out before anyone else took over. She also told how she was treated and believe me, I wouldn't put up with that. Maybe all Walmarts don't treat the employees like dirt but I am hearing that many DO. Sam Walton did NOT start Walmarts like this and he would be so disappointed to know what things have come to.

Yes I agree now that they have us all with their low prices they give us crappy service. They think we will put up with anything to save a few dollars. Well I hope they are wrong and that we eight won't shop there at all or we shop much less at their store! Go there only if you have too. I am trying to do this in my life in many area. If I don't get good service in any type of store I will find another place to shop! Is anyone else taking a stand? If we all do it then we might get some satisfaction!

Of course, I like Walmart for their prices, but the one closest to me is not exactly the best Walmart. It isn't a super Walmart so it has a limited grocery section. The aisles are way too small for so many carts and like you said, there is a lack of cashiers which makes people cranky.
I have been going to my local Target more frequently now. They have good prices and the store is huge and not so crowded. The parking is very good and the cashier lines are very short. It's the next best thing to Walmart I think.

I know what you mean! The end of last year our Wal Mart in my time went to a Supercenter. I like the one stop shopping and the prices, but finding help anywhere in the store is horrible. Sometimes it is ok, because i usually don't need help. But, it seems like the personnel should be more up on customer service. I worked for KMart for 14 years and customer service, and pleasing the customer was a big deal. It does not seem to be anymore, and I think that is sad. Our store usually has one lane open in the grocery side, and 2 maybe 3 in the retail side, and of course the check yourself out lanes, which I hate, there are 6 of those!

I'm sorry to say that i work there.I threated to walk on them more times than I can count. No matter how hard I try to my register always has a problem and it always seems to happen when I have a long line. It's alot of stress.I try to deal with it as best as I can.Alot of our employees are stessed.I never know who is going to quit every week.Maybe even me.

Sounds somewhat like ours..they have at least 20 registers, but only 3 to 5 are open at any given time..I like Walmart..sometimes we go late at night..no crowd...Ours was just built and opened in March..Otherwise we had to drive 20 minutes to the next town...

Same here, if you go late at night or early in the morning, your okay. Otherwise, expect to stand in line forever.

Hate it! Walmart and Dollar stores are two of the most destructive things ever to hit the American economy. Want to waste an entire day? Go to Wal-mart and look for items made in the USA. Good luck!
My fellow Americans really piss me off sometimes. We whine and cry about losing jobs, but then we happily pigout on tons of Chinese merchandise instead of being willing to pay a price for goods that allows workers who made them to earn a living. Doesn't ANYBODY understand that sending all our retail dollars to China so that China can lend them to our government to finance its day-to-day operations is a really BAD IDEA?

Actually, after watching the documentary I watched tonight on Wal-Mart, Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price (http://www.walmartmovie.com/), I'm not sure I'll ever shop there again.
Not only is it inconvenient, but for that low price, I'd have to shut off my morals in order not to think of all the people that low price is affecting.

I like Walmart! They aren't the same as they used to be as far as customer service. It used to be a lot better. But their prices are still the best. Around here pretty much all the stores are like you described with just a couple of checkouts opened. Most are even like that on weekends and busy days.

No I do not like wal mart. It is the closest store for me to go to however.i very seldom go there, unless I absolutly have to. The service there is lacking,as you said they never have enough resisters open, and you have to stand in line forever to get checked out. The self check-outs are a joke, something always goes wrong, and you need to get assistance.
