Dandelions

May 25, 2006 11:03am CST
I can see more of a sea of yellow than green. I can't remember them ever being this bad. I know I've let get out of control, but I don't like using chemicals. This is the first year I had my lawn aerated, and it looked so good. I have a bigggg yard so hand pulling the weeds is a huge job. I know this is my fault, so I take full blame. I just don't want my neighbors lawns to look like mine is right now.Any ideas? or helpful hints Thanx Angela

What is weed to one person is food to another. I plant a couple of dandelions every year to eat the leaves (mixed with lettuce), the flowers (in salads too) and place the seed in vinegar to use instead of capers.

This is going to sound crazy, but have you tried picking them while they're still yellow and washing them off and frying them? They are really good to eat. I'm from Kentucky and it happens to be a good seasonal treat around here. A lot of people think we're crazy, but eating fried dandelions is a good southern treat.
