Hi!~ I am juz small nobody from sg. Winks. What are your views on hearing impaired/ deaf people working or studying ? Do some people think those deaf people who using gestures seems as mute or stupid? That's not true. I feel those gestures Are sign language which people wont understand. Sigh language can express own feelings without voice.. Almost more majority of local people don't understand deaf culture. O_O i want slap people out there. hahaha hope people dont take offence to what i have said here. burp..

Hello jastice!(",)
I am happy to hear about your concern for those deaf individuals who are using sign language. I also support them and although I can't understand some sign language, I would like to learn how to communicate to them.(".)
By the way, you are not nobody but a somebody. Hope you will always remember that.
Have a great day!(",)
God bless you always!(",)

Hey, u noe what? U r perfectly right...
Alot of people dun understand sign languages and when they laugh at u, they themselves are silly...
Coz they are the people lacking in culture and wisdom... Dun have to care bout what the others says or do, i noe its pretty hard...
U noe some people can be pretty mean... But jus live ur life well, happily... k?
In fact, i dun understand sign languages too, but im in fact pretty keen on learning...
=)
Keep things going on... Stay happy k?

Hi jastice! I do not really see why other people would consider that mute or stupid..... I actually commend them for learning so that they can understand the world around them who grew up luckily with the gift of common language.
I have tried to learn sign language when I was younger, but almost forgot it now because I was not using it. Oh well, I will try to get some reading materials again for me to review. :D I am fascinated on how it was created and people can communicate in the same way as just plain speaking.
Cheers!

Stupid? Oh absolutely not!! I am selective mute and so is my daughter. I often thought it would be easier to be just mute as there is more understanding to that. Anyway I have often wondered and voiced ( yes , voiced) my opinion to public schools that sign language should be a requirement!
Spanish and French are requirements and yet many students will never have a need to know these languages. Being able to sign would break down so many barriers for so many people! Yes, you are so right...communication is very possible without a voice! I get quite angry at those that are verbally very capable and take it for granted and don't even try communicate deeper thoughts. They seem very adept at expressing angry or negative thoughts but don't extend to express compassion and kindness. Sometimes I really think that they are the ones more handicapped.

I think they are fine. I'm from sg too if you mean Singapore. I remembered during my secondary school days, we had 4 hearing impaired students in our classes. They are pretty ok but they will stick to their own cliques. So do we but we all get on quite well I guess. There is absolutely no discrimination and we all had fun learning sign language. Its like learning a new language. Why not?

I learned sign language as I was growning up because one of my best friends was deaf so we all learned so that we can talk to him. I believe that they have just as much right to work or study as the next person. Very strange first discussion but good one. Welcome to MyLot and I hope that you enjoy it here. Happy posting.

I work with people with issues. I have a lad who is profoundly deaf. His desire is to make training videos for people to learn sign language. He is one of the most enthusiastic members of my class. He has lots of great ideas. I am sure that he can do a considerably better job than most of the other students. By the way he has finished his first year of his Media course. I tried to learn Sign Language but crashed and burned it was so hard and I had a grat teacher too. I don't know who was more upset me or her! I just can't do languages! No we are all diffrent use your strengths not try and wrestle with your weaknesses. Fortunately deaf people do have a culture and tend to get on. Again it's this perception of being different that seems to bother people in general. Don't they realise that they are different too!
