In many tribal societies, the elderly were seen as a source of wisdom and were treasured by their society. Looks were unimportant. In our own society now, youth and beauty are worshipped far above age and wisdom. What happened? When did the shift occur?or am i wrong!

I don't think youth and beaut are worshiped at all. Neither is age and wisdom deteriorating. It clearly depends on what focus we are talking about.
Let's take the sample of Beauty Pageants. Of course they'll zero in more with the 'beauty' than the 'wisdom or age' Since the contestant really need to be appealing to the eyes with a little more wisdom.
On the other hand, government. They don't care how good you look there, you need to be full of wisdom (so as they say) to lead a country. Well, if you are not full of wisdom, maybe your cabinet should.
So it really depends on where we try to focus things. It is not always true that beauty is above age and wisdom, and vice versa.
