Hi,
Crossing your legs while you sit on a chair is a body language and it does define many of your characteristics...one is you say you're not open to what the other person is talking about or your nervousness...when you do so in front of elders it shows dis-respect in certain nations....for more information you can read any book on body language :-)

Hello 1qazxsw2,
Maybe it is a habit that we love to do whenever we feel anxious or less confident about something. That is what I read from somewhere; I just cannot recall it any more *smile* Sometimes, I do it too but only when I am alone as I remember my mom says, it is not good to shaking my feet in front of others. Something like being rude or whatsoever... *smile*

Jokingly speaking they do not have anything else to do. Realistically speaking it is the habit they picked up either from their parents, classmates or friends. It is difficult for them to give up unless someone dear to them tell about the bad etiquette.

Crossing the legs or even shaking them while sitting on a chair is a type of mannerism associated with many persons. Some say it is bad, while some say good of it. But I think it is just a type of mannerism and no good or bad is with it. Of course, any type of mannerism in excess is bad. Some relaxation to our tissues of legs are there with this I think. I also do it sometimes sitting on the chair. Thanks.

People do this out of habit. I am one of the type of person who likes crossing my legs when I sit. Now I am doing it also while typing here. It feels comfortable this way. Some people shake their legs when they are waiting for someone, I notice that. It's a sign people show when they are getting impatient. This is only my guess, I'm sure other members would have other opinion on this. Happy posting!

I think it is because we are sitting too long and we have to move ourselves some way. I do not know about body language because that can be interpreted differently depending on one's culture. It could be a habit or nervousness. I would say the leg shake is a combination of wanting to move your legs without anyone else being aware along with nervousness. I am always aware when I start shaking, and can easily stop. I also tap my feet when I hear music.

I am a "twitcher" (not sure if that's a real word. Anyways. I constantly fidget. If I cross my legs and shake my leg, it frees up my hands, lol. I've also heard that people shake their legs because the nerves are irritated a bit, by how they're sitting. I'm not sure how true this is, though. :o)
