Yes, they can. Especially if they are not vaccinated against parvo. If they are vaccinated against parvo yearly they should have adequate protection.
You should avoid having puppies as they would catch it very quickly.
It stays in the soil of your property for years and is spread as the wind blows.

I think putting lime down in the area of where she is buried it helps. I am not positive, but I have heard before that it helps to keep the spread of disease down. You can get it at the hardware store. I would double check on it though.
