Hello Amstardam,
I do care what people think of me anywhere I go. It is a reputation, which makes a person. If you have a good reputation then people take you serious. If you go around lying cheating and stealing you get a bad reputation and thats not good. But I do care what people think of me because I want to leave a good lasting impression on everyone.
Peace, Totty

I think that is a good standard to live by, but I also think honesty is what makes a good reputation. I wouldn't want to have a good reputation but lie my way through it. Sometimes good people have bad reputations because people judge them based on what they don't do.
For instance, there was a discussion on here about someone discovering a brother and sister having children together. I simply stated that I hope the children were okay because incest sometimes runs in families. People were in an uproar because I hoped the kids were okay. I don't understand this type of thinking. How could anyone not be concerned for those children?

That's how I feel. I am honest in my posts and responses and hope that everyone respects that. You either like me or you don't, not my problem. I tend to be a little outspoken in my life and it limits my friends, but I'm honest and would love to have honest friends too. So I don't care what other people think, everyone forms their own opinion anyway, whichever or however they like, you have no choice.

That's great! I like honest people. I'm the same way, I think honesty is important. And if you can't be honest, then I don't want you as a friend.

I want to be carefull in what I am saying in here. I once did, in another account here, some confessions about something. That ended up to be very existing in my account. That means, to me, that there was a problem for me to make referalls among my family members and friends. If you dont want to let them read all of your mysteries, than you have to be carefull with your sayings. I have to close up my formal account and have to start another one. I did loose my earnings. That was a hard lesson to learn.

I'm sorry to hear that! People can be very judgmental on here. I recently learned that lesson because I expressed some concern over a child in a incestious family. Everyone got mad that I expressed concern for the child and my ratings dropped by 30 points! I don't understand why wanting to make sure a child is okay is bad? No one would explain that to me. Oh well.

Yep, but sometimes people can take advantage of that and it's really sad. I think saying your opinion is fine and disagreeing is fine too...I just think it gets a little immautre when people don't have anything to say but name call.

I usually say what I want, but when it comes to controversial topics I might self-censor some of my more colorful opinions. I try to make some sort of image of how I am here at MyLot, and I really want people to think that I'm a nice, sensible person. :D If they don't... well, it's not the end of the world.

That's a good outlook to have. We can't always control what people are going to think.

I did once, but not anymore. I figure that if people do not like what I have to say then that is their problem.

I do care what others think of me. It's important to me to be known as a decent person. I am just as real on mylot as i am in person, well maybe i am more shy in person, but mylot is real it is not fiction for me. I would like to see more humor on mylot, but a lot of us run into daily life problems that we are able to share. Hoping for solutions. Take care Amstardam.

Unfortunately people on here accuse others trying to live a decent life as being snobby and "better than other's." When in reality no has ever said that. Oh well, I guess we just have to ignore what other people say when they are wrong and perhaps have a little bitterness in their lives.

Most of the time I try to be even nicer than I am in real life, because no one can hear my tone of voice, or see my facial expression. Yes, I care about the people on myLot, and what they think of me, and what they feel. Once in awhile I will get blunt with someone, but only if I feel that they are picking on someone else. I find that I have made some really good friends here.

I wish you were in on a discussion that I participated in a few days ago! I expressed concern over a child in a certain situation and the poster jumped on my case for being judgmental. Since when does expressing concern over a child mean that I'm being "holier than thou" as it was quoted? Oh well, not everyone cares about other people in this world.
I can see your point in not being able to express a tone of voice or facial expressions...people can easily take things the wrong way without that.

I write what I want, but I will not resort to cursing or swearing. Some topics and some people need strong answers and you have to hit them figuratively with a two by four. If one is careful, then one might excuse the wrong doing of the other person. For instance, if someone said they stole a purse and spent the money on a nice dress and were rather pleased about it, instead of saying, good for you because the dress was pure silk and a Paris original and the lady who owned it before was an awful selfish woman, I would give that writer a piece of my mind. When you are too careful, you tend to enable the other to get away with their wrong doing. And I particularly hate yes men and yes women.

Thank you! I respect you for that. It's sad though how many people on here are "yes" people. If you call someone for something that is blatantly wrong everyone seems to jump on your case. Oh well. It is what it is.

I am not one to have ever really cared what people think of me on a personal level, Amstardam. My only wish is to be respected for my mind. I always try to be as civil to fellow MyLotters as I can. I have not had too many problems with anyone here. For the most part MyLotters are a warm and friendly group who are doing something that they enjoy. When it gets so bad that I no longer enjoy it, I will leave.

I agree that most mylotters are very friendly and warm...there are just a few that don't respect each other's opinions. But it doesn't bother me either.

I'm less concerned about what people on myLot think of me than I am about what people I know in real life think of me, but it does still concern me a little bit. I don't want to go out of my way to upset anyone, but I am probably more likely to be a bit more direct here.

I'm the same way. I think honesty is important and it's easier to be honest, for me, online that is in person. But I also want to live honestly in both situations.

I am always careful! No need to hurt anyones feelings (whether they are on here or not) A careless thought can get you in deep trouble. Yes I care what people think , but I say what I think,( After careful consideration.) If a person deserves to hear the truth, I can deliver!

I agree that we shouldn't purposefully hurt people's feelings. Saying the truth is more important than hurting people's feelings...it obviously depends on the situation but in general that is a good rule to live by.

Its not that I care what others think of me, as much as it is that I don't ever like hurting peoples feelings. I respect others too much for that. I am very honest in my opinions (I'm a horrible liar) but I always try to say things in a way that isn't judgemental or hurtful. I do the same in real life as I do here. It's just who I am.

I come to myLot to have fun and to make money. When we joined myLot, we already know about myLot's terms and conditions including its guideliness. Thus, we should abide it. Although we don't know each other, we can't say whatever I want (Section 12 on myLot's terms and conditions and section "Now for DoN'Ts on myLot's guideliness)

it depends. for close friends here I will pay attention to what I said. I will be honest but I will choose my words carefully. For casual friends I treat them like they treat me, if they hurt me I will hurt them, if they never hurt me I won't hurt them either. For strangers I let it loose, and if they hurt me I will ignore them or laugh it off. I have enough to think about everyday, why add more to it?

Sounds good to me. I just don't understand why strangers would purposefully try to hurt someone? Oh well, people are people.

In most cases I am careful what I say. I still do speak my mind and there are nicer ways to get your views across without being nasty or name calling or cussing. Everyone is different though!

Exactly! Why do people feel the need to name call? I find it very immature. I also find that most people name call when they have nothing better to say. They were proven wrong and want to "get back at you" so they name call. It actually amuses me when it is an adult doing the name calling.

I am who I am! You either like me or you don't. I haven't gotten to a point in my life where I don't care what others think of me. Either here on mylot or elsewhere. As far as mylot. When I respond to discussions I will be polite. I will also make sure that if I am responding to a very contreversal discussion that others know that my response is my own opinion and that I am not putting others down for thier decisions. I try not to be rude or hurt others feelings. But I am not going to change myself or how I feel about something just so people will like me.

Well said! I agree 100% but I have also found that people will twist what you say to whatever they want to. I've learned to not be offended when people do that because I've learned that people only take offense at what is true about themselves.

On my part I DO still consider the feelings of others. but sometimes it depends on my mood of the day. But when I feel down and angry I just see to it that I have to avoid this addicting habit of mylot, so I cannot hurt anybody. The reason I do value the feelings of other was that who knows my reaction or response would help him/her.

That's a good habit to practice. It can be hard to treat others well when you are having a terrible day, or week, or month, etc.
I've had some contractors working in my condo unit this past week. They are fixing a leak in 4 different condos. They said the the other 3 condos are treating them horribly. They said they get that a lot, "people feel that they can treat others bad because their lives are miserable." I think that's horrible! No one should treat anyone bad just because they aren't doing well themselves.
