just wanna know if how many here bring thier lunch to work and what do you usually prepare. I would appreciate if you would share "quick and easy pack lunch" I know that by doing this we could save a lot. I am also planning to bring pack "snacks" to my office. what do you think? Can anyone share how much he/she really saves by this?

Yes, that really can help saving money. I used to do that when my mom lived with me and she would cook. I bought lunch to work and except traveling expenses, I didn't really need to use money at all when I was at work those 5 days and it made me feel really great and happy. It was like I could have good food and still I could save money! But now, since my mom is traveling, I cannot bring lunch to work (I don't have time to cook), I just eat some really cheap stuff for lunch, but sure you will be amazed how much you spend on lunches! I look forward to bringing lunch to work when my mom returns.

Having previously purchased lunch daily, and now preparing lunch each day, I can honestly say it does save you money and time. The time it takes each lunch hour to go and buy something now gives way to a leisurely and relaxing lunch hour. I figure I save about $30 a week, and the type of lunch I prepare varies from salads to sandwiches to rolls with fruit etc. It really is the best way to do things.

I think we should count the sum of money saved for a week rather than counting it per day so we'll realized how big are we saving.
welcome to mylot! I hope you enjoy your stay here. and thank you for choosing my discussion as your very first post/response.:)

I always made lunch for my husband. I would mainly make sandwiches because it was easy. We would buy packaged or deli meats and I would make meat sandwiches. Sometimes I would make salmon or egg sandwiches. For the last two, I would mix them with Miracle Whip, chopped onions, paprika, salt, pepper and a touch of cayenne. Sometimes if we had ham, I would use part for soup, and the bits I would grind up in a food processor and make deviled ham sandwiches. I have no idea how much I saved, but when you figure that a lunch might run into $5,00, it could have been qute a bit.

My usual lunches that I bring to work are sandwiches, salads, and TV dinner style meals. We have a refrigerator at work, so it's very easy for me to keep my meals cold until lunch time.
I also keep snacks in my desk drawer, for those mornings when I get hungry early, or when I need some sugar in the afternoon.
I think that bringing your lunch (and keeping snacks on hand) definitely saves money. I can usually spend somewhere between $10-15 on all of the things I will need to make my lunch for 5 days, which is somewhere between $2-3 a day. If I ate at the cafe downstairs, it would be at least $5 a day, probably more.
The snacks are cheaper when you buy them in bulk at the grocery store too, because individually packaged snacks are usually expensive out of candy machines or convenience stores.

Yes sometimes I do bring lunck pack in the office to save a lot of money and of course save me time to buy food in the cafeteria. I will save money buy doing this but doesnt mean a lot but for sure it helps. If I dont find time to bring my own food in the office I dont have any option but to buy in the cafeteria and the food is so expensive compare to just bringing my own food.

I usually bring lunch at the office. For me, nothing still beats homecooked lunch and also I can save money for somethigns I want to buy. Usually I bring whatever food my mom or I cook for lunch. Sometimes when I dont feel like eating rice, I would just prepare a sandwhich. I was able to only spend 1/4 of my salary because I only spend it for fare and drinks.

I think we save about $30 a week by doing this - the place where my husband would buy his lunch isn't really that expensive, so the savings aren't that great.
We pack things like:
leftovers from dinner in a ziploc container
wraps - a tortilla with rice, chicken, and veggies. Or spinach and chicken.
sandwiches
fruit
Once in a while, I'll bake something, and we'll divide it up into portions that I put in the freezer. We put one of these into his lunch every day.
We buy those prepackaged one-serving soups as back-ups - he keeps a couple at work in case he forgets his lunch or is extra hungry.

I always bring my lunch to work when I work outside my home. I have some health conditions that are affected by food and just about every restaurant's food makes me ill and perform poorly at work. So, I bring my own lunch with lots of vegetables and no salt added products as well as a couple of fruits.

I would pack if I had to work all day. That saves money and the food is of much better quality to allow for efficient working. Snacks are also good since you can save money that way too and often include something healthier than you can get in a machine. Good luck. I thoroghly enjoy sitting and reading or socializing depending on the job and having lunch. Sitting outside is sometimes offered too and that makes it very nice.

I work nights for now but I make my husband a bag lunch every morning. It is so much cheaper then him getting something when he is out. When we first got married and combined our finances I was shocked to see how much $3 here and ther added up in the monthly budget. Now he gets a PB and J beacuse that is what he wants. He likes to keep the money in the bank too after seeing how much it was.

I am a SAHM so I have lunch at home with my son every day. But when I did work I carried a lunch to work. I liked to carry a sandwich, pretzels and fresh fruit. I would nibble on the fruit all day and it was a good sugar fix for me. I was good system.

I bring my lunch probably 4-5 times a week. It save a lot of money. I would say in my area the average cost for a lunch...sandwich and drink, maybe chips/cookie is about $8-$9. I know my own lunches are much more affordable than that.
Both my boyfriend and I bring our lunches so we often make sandwiches. Tuna and egg salad are really affordable and can be made ahead of time and stored in the fridge. I really like both these things too. I also always try to cook enough dinner that there are leftovers for lunch. This helps alot in both cost and saving time, you don't feel like you are always in the kitchen preparing meals.
That said it's not bad to treat yourself to lunch out everyonce and again.

when i was working i did bring lunch from home. Usually, i brought the rice and chicken that i prepared the night before. I just heat it up in the employee lounge. sometimes i just bought the left over from dinner the night before. Works pretty good and safe money.
