I am having company for a few days. I work the entire time they are here. I thought I would make some simple things to have on hand like Rice Krispie bars. Do any of you have a new spin you can put on them? I think I'll frost them with chocolate frosting but do any of you add something to make them a little more special?

Chocolate frosting on rice krispie bars sounds good. I had a friend that would melt the hershey kisses or the chocolate chips and then pour that over the bars. It was really good.

You can use food dye on them. Like for Halloween, people make orange Rice Krispie treats.

Somewhere around here, I have a recipe for RK bars made with Karo syrup instead of marshmallows. My hubby thinks they are the best round. I'll look for it and post the recipe when I find it.
Another way that we used to make them is mix them with Almond Bark. I think the recipe is like this...
6 c. RK
6 squares Almond Bark (white, almond or Chocolate flavor)
1 c. peanut butter.
Melt the bark and Peanut butter together. When smooth, pour over the krispies, stir, and press into a greased 9x13" pan.
These are soooooo yummy! Don't serve them on a hot summer day, though, as they melt really quickly. :)

Here is the Karo Syrup recipe I was telling you about...
1 c. light Karo Syrup (Corn Syrup)
1 c. sugar (white)
1 c. peanut butter
6 c. Rice Krispies
Topping:
1 c. Chocolate chips
1 c. Butterscotch or Peanut Butter chips
Heat sugar & syrup to boil over med.heat. Stir in Peanut butter. When melted, stir in RK. Spread into a well-greased 9x13" pan.
Melt the chips and spread over bars.

When melting the marshmellows add the butterscotch chips then. They melt right in. Top with choc chips and peanutbutter chips mixture~ melt the chips together. They are soo good that way.

My Nana makes the best rice krispie treats. In fact she used to mail them to me when I was in college. My friend would recognice the box and follow me to my room to try to get me to share.
There are two things she does that are a little different.
One-she hadd chocolate chips to them. The imoprtant thing about this is you add them with the marshmellowi s still warm, so they partially melt. This leaves them looking chcolate swirly.
The other thing is rather than pressing them into a pan, she would shape them into balls with her hands and sit them in some of those paper cupcake liners. I think theball shape helps them to stay more moist longer, because they were always still soft and gooey even a week after they were made. Not that they ever last that long :-)

Try adding some peanut butter to the melted marshmellow. That makes them really yummy. Another thing you can do is to use Cocoa Krispies instead of the plain ones. That gives you yummy chocolate ones without having to worry about melting chocolate chips in with them.
Instead of just frosting them, you can also drizzle chocolate over them and let it harden. I've also seen people add peanuts to the marshmellow before mixing them up as well. Really, the possibilities are endless.

I like to use the Berry Krispies. I use half regular Krispies and half of the berry Krispies. Everything else in the recipe is the same. Everyone loves them!

in the same vein as frosting them, it would be fun to melt some chocolate chips and dip 1/2 of the bar in chocolate and 1/2 in something else like melted butterscotch chips or cherry chips or peanut butter chips or white chocolate chips. They would be tasty, have two flavors, and be pretty :) You could also dip them in chocolate and then roll them in crushed toffee, crushed oreos, nuts, sprinkles, colored sugar, crushed nutter butters, mini chocolate chips, crushed candy bars, etc
