when I was about 27, I was locked out of the house and (at home by myself), so I tried to climb through the front bedroom window. I remember at the time, the window's latch was broken, so it wouldn't stay open on its own. As I was climbed through the window, I tried to balance myself on its sill and keep the window open with one hand. I managed to stretch my legs out towards the floor in my room, but I lost balance on the sill and came crashing down on my left foot too hard and pushed my foot the wrong way. From this incidence, I broke my tibular and fibular bones in my ankle and my foot spun around backwards. (I feel sick as I write this!)
Somehow I managed to slide myself across the carpet from my room and into the kitchen to get the mobile/cell phone. I rang an ambulance to pick me up and take me to hospital.
When I was at hospital, I had to go under an operation and have plates and screws put in my ankle.
After about 6 weeks I had the plaster taken off and I virtually had to learn how to walk again by joining an ankle group at the hospital. I also had visit a physio to help get my ankle moving again.
For about 8 months after my first break, I still wasn't walking very well. Then oneday, I was at church and this lady asked me to light a candle up the front (alter) of the church. So I got up from the pew I was sitting on, limped towards the front alter and climbed a few small steps to light the candel. After lighting the candel, I remember feeling embarrased about being in front of a whole church concregation, so I tried to quickly climb down the steps and make my way back towards my seat, but disaster happened. As I went back down the stairs, I missed a step or two and slipped, landing on my right ankle. An ambulance was called for me again, and I was layed out on a stretcher in front of the whole church and wheeled down the isle!! Now that was even more embarrasing!!
When I arrived at the hospital and had x-rays, I found I had a very fine fracture... atleast I didn't have to have another operation this time but sometimes I have more pain (even now) with it than the ankle that was operated on.

At 22 I shattered my right kneecap when I had a twist and fall in the snow. At 24, I broke two bones in the top of my foot when I slipped and dropped my sleeper sofa on it.
