What diets have you tried?

I read a statistic that said something like 90% of Americans are on a diet at any one time. I myself am a fan of healthy living and eating, as there are so many diets out there that I simply don't know what to choose. The only ones I know anything about are Slim Fast, Slimming World and the Atkins diet. What diets have you tried? Did it work for you? What did it involve? x

I have tried the Atkins diet (terrible as I'm a vegetarian)... the South Beach Diet, the Stewardess Diet, the Mayo Health Clinic diet.... the grape fruit diet and a ton of other fad diets. My mom always made me do diets with her when I was growing up. The worst one is the one with that nasty tomato/cabbage soup that you can eat a ton of and not a whole lot else.

Because I have fibromyalgia associated IBS, there are a lot of diet-type foods I cannot eat (broccoli, cauliflower, salads), so I am on the Slimfast Diet. I used it several years ago and was happy with my accomplishment. I I have been using it with exercise and done really well, but haven't been exercising lately but am still losing weight. I'm actually at the lowest I have been since before I got pregnant over 11 years ago. I am thrilled. I do drink lots of water too. Again, because of the fibromyalgia, my exercise is limited to walking, brisk walking. I've just been too busy lately to fit it into my schedule. I also cut back on my sugar. I am still addicted to my caramels and Tootsie Rolls which are limited to evenings only. I use Splenda in my tea (2 cups a day only) and on cereal (though not eating that while I'm on Slimfast), and eating no sugar added cookies because I grew up soooo addicted to cookies. I find all of these things are giving me great success.

The only real popular diet that I've tried is the Atkins diet. It actually worked pretty well for me but is really hard to maintain and turns out being pretty expensive with all the meat you have to buy. I'm actually able to lose weight fairly easily (if I make the effort). I just drink lots of water, eat smaller portions, cut out pop and sweets and don't eat after 7 PM. The last time I made the effort I lost 17 lbs in a little over 2 weeks.
