What will you do if someone behind your back calls you that your an idiot?

what do you think is the best approach to him/her when you heard or found out that somebody tells that your an idiot, without knowing personally this someone? Is a slap the best answer for him??Or a punch with a sidekick? can somebody tell me?thank you.

i think i will get up sad and will to talk to that person and try to get the reason why he/she call me an idiot..
