How do you deal with your feeling of jealousy?

I have a friend whom I like very much. He has a very good personality and if he meets someone, that person will immediately like him. And then I'd feel jealous because he is more popular than me. I know my jealous attitude is wrong because it comes between me and my friend. For example, when we are with a group of people he becomes the center of attention and the people like him more than me, at least, that's how I feel. So I become laid back and if he suggests that we go somewhere with the group, I sometimes refuse. I want to get rid of this feeling, but it's very difficult for me, I am just human. So I need your advise, what should I do?
